Doom metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other heavy metal genres. Both the music and the lyrics intend to evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom. The genre is strongly influenced by the early work of Black Sabbath, who formed a prototype for doom metal. During the first half of the 1980s, a number of bands from England, the United States and Sweden defined doom metal as a distinct genre.
The Obsessed is an American heavy metal band from Potomac, Maryland, United States, led by Scott "Wino" Weinrich and which combines elements of doom metal, stoner rock and punk rock. Formed in 1980, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus, but reformed four years later. After releasing three albums, the Obsessed broke up for a second time in 1995. After briefly reuniting for some shows in 2012 and 2013, the Obsessed announced their third reunion in March 2016.
Saint Vitus is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1979. They are one of the first doom metal bands, alongside Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble and Pagan Altar. Having released nine studio albums to date, Saint Vitus never achieved a popular breakthrough, but have exerted great influence on the development of doom metal, sludge metal, and stoner rock.

Saint Vitus is the debut album by the American doom metal band Saint Vitus, released in early 1984 via SST Records. According to Dave Chandler, the album was recorded in 1982, but was delayed by nearly two years, due to a lawsuit that SST was involved in. It was released on both vinyl and cassette, and later on CD; all three formats are currently difficult to find. "White Magic/Black Magic" and "Saint Vitus" are included on the compilation album Heavier Than Thou. Along with Trouble's Psalm 9, Saint Vitus is considered by many critics one of the first doom metal albums to be released.
Psalm 9 is the debut studio album by the American doom metal band Trouble, released in 1984. The album was originally released eponymously and was renamed to Psalm 9 after the release of their fourth album, which was their 1990 self-titled release. Along with the Saint Vitus eponymous debut album from the same year, Psalm 9 is considered by many critics to be one of the first doom metal releases.
Hellhound Records was a German record label during the late 1980s and 1990s, self-described as "The Heaviest Label On Earth". They became known for putting out doom metal, with artists such as Saint Vitus and The Obsessed. In the early 1990s Hellhound signed a number of Maryland doom bands such as Internal Void, Iron Man, Revelation, Wretched and Unorthodox. They quickly became a prominent label in the doom metal genre. Some of the Hellhound releases were distributed in the US by Noise Records and Noise began pressing some of the later releases after Hellhound's demise. Noise released a compilation entitled Pure Noise which featured a number of Hellhound bands along with many Noise bands as well. Only a few Hellhound releases were re-released by current labels, such as Southern Lord Records and Japan's Leaf Hound Records.

This album was the last to feature original singer Scott Reagers until their seventh album, Die Healing (1995). Reagers also appears on The Walking Dead EP that was released the same year. It remained the only Saint Vitus album not to be officially released on CD until SST officially released the album on CD in combination with The Walking Dead in 2010.

This is the last release to feature original singer Scott Reagers, until he returned for Die Healing (1995). The EP was released on 12" vinyl in 1985, but there was no CD release until 2010. In that format, it was typically included with the band's 1985 LP, Hallow's Victim.
Live is the first live album by the American doom metal band Saint Vitus, recorded on November 10, 1989 at Germany's Circus Gammelsdorf. The album was released in 1990 on Hellhound Records. It was re-released by Southern Lord Records (SUNN43) in 2005. This was the final release to feature singer Scott "Wino" Weinrich until he rejoined Saint Vitus some years later, performing on their 2012 album Lillie: F-65.
Die Healing is the seventh studio album by the American doom metal band Saint Vitus, released in 1995 by Hellhound Records. In addition to being their final album before disbanding in 1996, Die Healing saw the band reunite with the original lineup of vocalist Scott Reagers, guitarist Dave Chandler, bassist Mark Adams and drummer Armando Acosta. It would, however, be the last Saint Vitus album to feature Acosta before his death in 2010, and Reagers for 20 years until his return to the band in 2015.
Heavier Than Thou is a Saint Vitus compilation album put out by SST Records in 1991. It features tracks taken from each of their releases on SST. Although this compilation was released after V, it contains none of the songs from that album as Saint Vitus had switched record labels by that time.
Count Raven are a doom metal band established in 1989 in Sweden. In 1990-1996 Count Raven released four studio albums, then broke up in 1998. In 2003 the band reunited and in 2009 released their fifth album, Mammons War.
Lillie: F-65 is the eighth studio album by the American doom metal band Saint Vitus, which was released on April 27, 2012. This is the first Saint Vitus studio album since Die Healing (1995) and the only one to feature Scott "Wino" Weinrich on vocals in 22 years, since V (1990). It also marks their first album with Henry Vasquez on drums, and their final release with bassist Mark Adams, who left the band in 2016 due to Parkinson's disease.
