The Canadian men's national under-19 basketball team represents Canada in international under-18 and under-19 (under age 18 and under age 19) basketball competitions. They are overseen by Canada Basketball, the governing body for basketball in Canada. [1] [2]

Contents

The 2017 team won the Canadian Press Team of the Year Award, becoming the first basketball team to win the award. [3]

A prominent member was RJ Barrett who helped his country win the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, where he became the tournament's MVP. [4] The head coach Roy Rana in later years would become an NBA assistant coach and Head Coach of the Egyptian men's national basketball team.

Vassilis Spanoulis, also commonly known as Bill Spanoulis, or Billy Spanoulis is a Greek former professional basketball player and coach, who is currently the head coach for AS Monaco of the French LNB Élite and the EuroLeague, as well as the head coach of the senior men's Greek national team. In the sport of basketball, Spanoulis is known worldwide for his signature move as a player, which is commonly known as "Spanoulis Action", or simply "Spanoulis". Use of the Spanoulis play has become popular in the NBA, and in other basketball leagues and competitions around the world. During his pro playing career, at a height of 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) tall, and a weight of 212 lb (96 kg), Spanoulis played as a point guard-shooting guard, and was nicknamed Kill Bill, V-Span, Greek Thunder, and MVP. Spanoulis was named the Balkan Athlete of the Year in 2009, the Eurobasket Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013, the International Sports Prize's World Athlete of the Year in 2013, and the EuroLeague MVP the same year. Dario Šarić is a Croatian professional basketball player for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He also represents the senior Croatia national team. He joined the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016 playing two seasons for the team before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. After a season with the team he was traded to the Phoenix Suns in the 2019 offseason and played 4 seasons for the team before being dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2023 trade deadline.
