Chatham Manufacturing Mill was built by the Chatham Manufacturing Company. The former textile mill is located in Winston-Salem in North Carolina.
The Chatham Manufacturing Company was founded in 1877 in Elkin North Carolina. The original Mill was on Elkin Creek, but moved alongside the Yadkin River to take advantage of the railroad.
A second factory would be built in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1907 and expanded through 1951. The factory complex consists of a series of interconnected one to five-story heavy timber frame, brick, steel, and concrete industrial buildings. The complex also includes a coal trestle (1907); two small buildings erected in the 1940s (a brick fire pump house and a concrete block workshop); an electrical substation (1948-1954); and a one-story brick office building (1937). The Chatham Manufacturing Company consolidated its operations at Elkin in 1940, and the Winston-Salem plant was subsequently purchased by the United States Government. It was occupied by National Carbon Company (1943-1945) and Western Electric (1946-1966), who manufactured equipment for the United States military. [2]
The Winston-Salem complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. [1]
During the first part of the century the primary focus of company sales were blankets but by the 1930s the company started producing automotive upholstery. By the 1980s the company had plants located in Eden, North Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina along with the Elkin plant.
The mill complex has been redeveloped into luxury apartments. [3]

The Cocheco Mills comprise a historic mill complex in the heart of Dover, New Hampshire. The mills occupy a bend in the Cochecho River that has been site of cotton textile manufacturing since at least 1823, when the Dover Manufacturing Company supplanted earlier sawmills and gristmills. The present mill buildings were built between the 1880s and the early 20th century, and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
Arista Cotton Mill Complex, also known as Salem Cotton Manufacturing Company and Arista Cotton Mill and Lentz Transfer & Storage Co., is a historic cotton mill complex located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The complex includes two buildings: a brick building built in 1836 by part of the Moravian congregation of Salem and the original home of the Salem Cotton Manufacturing Company, and the other is the original Arista Mill, built in 1880 by F. and H. Fries Cotton Arista Mills. The 1836 Salem Cotton Mill is a three-story, brick building with a monitor roof. The 1880 mill is a three-story brick building, 14 bays long, with bracketed eaves with timber supports. A two-story roughly triangular brick building was added about 1900. The 1836 building has been converted to a hotel known as The Historic Brookstown Inn.
Shamrock Mills, also known as Hanes Hosiery Mill #1, is a historic textile mill building located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It was built in 1911, and is a one-story brick building with daylight basement. It is six bays deep and extends in seven sections with a rhythmic saw-tooth roof and six-foot skylights. An addition was built in 1925. It was the first building used by the Hanes Hosiery Company. The mill closed in 1926, and the building subsequently housed a Cadillac dealership. The building houses the Sawtooth School for Visual Art.
Indera Mills, also known as Maline Mills, is a historic textile mill complex located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The complex includes a two-story, gable roof brick building with a brick addition ; a small, one-story brick boiler room building ; and two flat-roof brick buildings built between 1907 and 1912 with their long sides contiguous. Indera Mills occupied the complex until 1998. The complex has been converted to commercial and residential use.
P.H. Hanes Knitting Company is a historic textile mill complex located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The complex includes three buildings. The Knitting Building or North Building was built in 1920–1921, and is a six-story, Beaux-Arts style concrete and steel building sheathed in brick. The Mill Building or East Building was built in 1928, and is a five-story-plus-basement building of concrete, brick, and steel construction. The Warehouse and Shipping Building was built in 1940, and is a six-story steel frame building sheathed in brick. The P.H. Hanes Knitting Company was founded in 1901 by Pleasant H. Hanes, brother of John W. Hanes who founded Shamrock Mills, later Hanes Hosiery. In February 1965, P. H. Hanes Knitting Company merged with Hanes Hosiery. The downtown mill complex closed in 1965. The complex has been converted to loft apartments.
W. F. Smith and Sons Leaf House and Brown Brothers Company Building, also known as Piedmont Leaf Tobacco Co., is a historic tobacco manufacturing complex located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The complex includes two buildings. The W. F. Smith and Sons Leaf House was built about 1890, and is a 4+1⁄2-story, nine bays long and three bays wide, stuccoed brick building with a stepped gable facade. The former Brown Brothers building, was built between 1890 and 1895, and is a five-story brick building with a mansard roof and hip roof dormer windows. By 1900 both buildings housed tobacco prizeries.
Oakdale Cotton Mill Village is a historic textile mill, mill village, and national historic district located at Jamestown, Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. The district encompasses 37 contributing buildings including the Logan Manufacturing Company complex built during the 1880s and 33 frame mill worker houses dated to the early-20th century. The factory complex consists of a three-story rectangular brick office, a one and two-story L-shaped brick factory with a four-story tower and five one-story brick warehouses, a small one-story board-and-batten blacksmith shop, and a polygonal brick smokestack.

The Naushon Company Plant is a historic textile mill complex at 32 Meeting Street in Cumberland, Rhode Island. First built in 1902-04 and enlarged over time, it illustrates the adaption of the site to differing uses between then and the 1950s, when its use for textile manufacture ended. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
