Chew Chong Sin is a Malaysian politician from DAP. He is the Member of Johor State Legislative Assembly for Mengkibol since 2018.
Chew is a former bank manager in Kuala Lumpur,Asia Pacific region manager of a German company and Director of BPP Professional Education (United Kingdom),China branch. He was also a businessman in Shanghai.
He was also the Chairman of Chinese Student in UKM Committee and Secretary of Civil Rights Committee for The KL &Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. [1]
When he was in Shanghai,Chew established “Bersih Shanghai”in 2012,which actively campaigned ‘Jom Balik Undi’(Go Back and Vote) in other countries. Bersih Shanghai had held several forums with other NGOs,activist and Malaysian political leaders to share their thoughts to Malaysians in Shanghai.
He is also a columnist who shares his opinion on current issues and economic issues in “Mirror of Shanghai”for Oriental Daily.
In July 2013,he returned to Malaysia and started campaigning with DAP during the 2013 Malaysian general election. Before that,he also helped the opposition to campaign in the 1999 and 2004 Malaysian general election.
In 2018,he joined DAP and contested in the 2018 Malaysian general election as a Pakatan Harapan candidate and was chosen as the Member of Johor State Legislative Assembly for Mengkibol. [1]

On 15 March 2019,Chew Chong Sin said that the Christchurch mosque shootings should be a lesson for Malaysia in racial and religious issues,for instance the collaboration between UMNO and PAS. [4] After that,he retracted his statement due to misinterpretation. [5]
The Democratic Action Party is a centre-left social democratic political party in Malaysia. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition,it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional in the 2018 Malaysian general election,ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition. However,before the coalition finished its first term,defections from partnering parties caused it to lose power after 22 months,culminating in the 2020 Malaysian political crisis. At the 2022 Malaysian general election,the PH coalition which the DAP was part of was returned to power again,albeit with a smaller majority leading it to form a unity government with political rivals.

The seat in the state assembly of Malacca,Malaysia,fell vacant after the incumbent,Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA),died on 15 March that year. The Sibu by-election,2010 was a by-election for the seat of Sibu in the Parliament of Malaysia. The Sarawak-based seat fell vacant after the death of its incumbent member,Robert Lau Hoi Chew,from liver cancer on 9 April 2010. The seat was defended for the Barisan Nasional coalition government by Robert Lau Hui Yew of the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP),while Sarawak State Assemblyman Wong Ho Leng contested the poll for the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition. Wong won the election by 398 votes,wresting the seat from the Barisan Nasional.
The Bersih 2.0 rally was a demonstration in Kuala Lumpur held on 9 July 2011 as a follow-up to the 2007 Bersih rally. The rally,organised by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih),was supported by Pakatan Rakyat,the coalition of the three largest opposition parties in Malaysia,but was deemed illegal by the government. Bersih,chaired by former president of the Bar Council Ambiga Sreenevasan,were pushing the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) to ensure free and fair elections in Malaysia. It demanded that the EC clean up the electoral roll,reform postal voting,use indelible ink,introduce a minimum 21-day campaign period,allow all parties free access to the media,and put an end to electoral fraud.

The seat became vacant after the death of the incumbent assemblyman,Eddie Ng Tien Chee on 20 July 2018 in a traffic accident on the Cheras–Kajang Expressway. This was the second casual vacancy in the Assembly since the May 2018 general election after Sungai Kandis,which held a by-election in August 2018. The by-election will be held on the same day as the Seri Setia by-election. In the last 2018 general election,Ng defeated Barisan Nasional (BN)'s Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) candidate,Lim Chin Wah and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS),with a vote majority of 35,538.

The 2022 Johor state election,formally the 15th Johor general election,took place on 12 March 2022. The election was to elect 56 members of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on 22 January 2022.
