Christopher Flyn Foerster (born October 12, 1961) is an American football coach who is the run game coordinator and offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). Previously, he worked for the Dolphins as their offensive coordinator in 2004. [1]
Foerster was hired by the San Francisco 49ers on February 15, 2008, as the co-offensive line coach. He assumed the title of offensive line coach in week 8 of the 2008 season.
Prior to joining the 49ers, Foerster spent three years (2005–07) as the offensive line coach and assistant head coach for the Baltimore Ravens. Foerster has also served as the offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins (2004), [2] tight ends coach for the Indianapolis Colts (2002–03), offensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1996–2001) and assistant offensive line/tight ends coach for the Minnesota Vikings (1993–95).
With a total of 34 years coaching experience, Foerster also made an impact in the collegiate ranks, serving as the offensive line coach for the University of Minnesota (1992), assistant offensive line/special teams coach for Stanford (1988–91) and offensive line coach for Colorado State (1983–87). He began his coaching career in 1982 as a graduate assistant at Colorado State [3] after a successful career with the Rams as a center from 1979 to 1982. Foerster originally joined the Rams football team as a walk-on before earning a scholarship as a sophomore.
Foerster resigned from the Miami Dolphins on October 9, 2017, after video surfaced of him snorting cocaine. [4] [5] [6] [7]
On August 23, 2019, it was reported that Foerster was hired by the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant coach to help game-planning as a member of Kyle Shanahan's staff. [8] The hire was not formally announced nor is Foerster featured on the 49ers' website. [9] In 2021, Foerster was promoted to offensive line coach. In 2022, after Niners offensive/run game coordinator Mike McDaniel left to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Foerster was promoted to McDaniel's former position of run game coordinator. Michael Edward Shanahan is an American football coach, best known as the head coach of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL) from 1995 to 2008. During his fourteen seasons with the Broncos, he led the team to two consecutive Super Bowl victories in XXXII and XXXIII; along with being the first Super Bowl championships in team history, they were the seventh team to win consecutive Super Bowls in NFL history. His head coaching career spanned a total of twenty seasons and also included stints with the Los Angeles Raiders and Washington Redskins. He is the father of San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Jeffrey Marc Zgonina is an American football coach and former player who currently serves as the defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys. He played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for 17 seasons. He played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL draft.
Kenneth Simon Dorsey is an American professional football coach and former quarterback who is the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Miami Hurricanes, where he won the national championship and the Maxwell Award in 2001. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL draft, later playing for the Cleveland Browns and the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL), before retiring in 2010.
Kyle Michael Shanahan is an American professional football coach who is the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He came to prominence as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, whose offense in 2016 led the league in points scored and helped the team reach Super Bowl LI. Shanahan became the head coach of the 49ers the following season, leading the team to three division titles, four postseason appearances, four NFC Championship Game appearances, and two Super Bowl appearances.
Nicholas Carl Sorensen is an American football coach and former safety who is the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Virginia Tech.
Anthony Ray Lynn is an American professional football coach and former running back who is the run game coordinator and running backs coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played running back for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and in the NFL for six seasons, primarily with the Denver Broncos where he won Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII. Lynn entered coaching after retiring as a player in 2000, later serving as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017 to 2020.
Kevin William O'Connell, nicknamed "KOC", is an American professional football coach and former player who is the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He was the quarterback for the San Diego State Aztecs and was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft. A former long-time assistant and descendant of the Shanahan coaching tree, McDaniel began his NFL coaching career as an intern for the Denver Broncos in 2005. McDaniel served as an assistant coach for the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, and San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2021, holding his first offensive coordinator position in 2021. McDaniel has appeared in Super Bowl LI with the Falcons in 2017, and Super Bowl LIV with the 49ers in 2020 as an assistant coach alongside Kyle Shanahan.

Daniel Patrick Quinn is an American professional football coach who is the head coach of the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He has been active in the NFL since 2001, most prominently as Atlanta Falcons head coach from 2015 to 2020. His career in coaching began in college football, spent mostly with the Hofstra Pride in the late 1990s. Adam Joseph Gase is a former American football coach in the National Football League (NFL). He came to prominence as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos from 2013 to 2014, whose offense set the NFL record for points scored in 2013 and helped the team reach Super Bowl XLVIII. Following this success, Gase served as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2016 to 2018 and the New York Jets from 2019 to 2020.
The 2016 season was the Miami Dolphins' 47th season in the National Football League (NFL), their 51st overall, their first under general manager Chris Grier and their first under head coach Adam Gase. The season saw the Dolphins trying to improve upon their 6–10 record from 2015. After a lackluster 1–4 start, the Dolphins would claim six straight wins, and finish the season on a 9–2 run. With their Week 15 win over the New York Jets, the Dolphins clinched a winning record for the first time since 2008, and clinched a playoff berth the following week after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos, ending their 8-year playoff drought. This made Gase the Dolphins' first rookie coach since Tony Sparano to end a year-long playoff drought and also lead them to a winning record of at least 10 wins. They were also the first AFC East team, other than the New England Patriots, to qualify for the postseason since the 2010 New York Jets. However, they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round, ending their season and not winning a playoff game for the 16th straight year.
