Chuka Odom (born October 19,1960) is a Nigerian lawyer and 2015 People's Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for Governor of Imo State. He was Commissioner for Special Duties between 2003 - 2007,in Abia State,Federal Minister of State for Environment,Housing and Urban Development from December 2007 to May 2009 and then Minister of state for FCT (Federal Capital Territory,Abuja),a post he held until October 2010.
Odom was born in Ikeduru in Imo state on 19 October 1960 [1] to the family of Sir Tobias Odom and Lady Irene Odom (née Onyerindu). [2] He started his educational journey at St. Michael's Primary School,Umuahia,Abia State between 1971 and 1974. He also attended Immaculate Conception Seminary Ahia-Eke,Umuahia in 1974 and obtained his A’Level Certificate in 1980. Thereafter,he proceeded to Imo State University to study Law. He earned a Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons) in 1981 and attended Nigerian Law School,Lagos in 1986. [3]
Odom started his career as Counsel-in-chamber at Tagbo Nwogu &Co Legal practitioners,Aba,Abia State between 1988 and 1990 and later Established Chuka Odom &Co,Legal Practitioners in 1990.
Odom ventured into politics in 1999 when he served as a campaign strategist for Orji Uzor Kalu's 1999 gubernatorial campaign and was appointed as Special Adviser,Special Duties to the former governor between 1999 and 2001. [4] He later rose to become the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor,Commissioner for Special Duties,Abia State and between May 2007 to September 2007 he was made the Commissioner for Works,Housing and Urban Planning Imo State Government. [5]
He became Honourable Minister of State for Environment,Housing and Urban Development of the Federal republic of Nigeria in 2007 - 2009 [6] [7] and later became the Minister of State,Federal Capital Territory between 2009 and 2010. [8] [9] [10] He vied unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives seat for Ikeduru Federal Constituency,Imo State in 2011. [11]
In the 2015 general election,he declared his interest to run for the Governor of Imo state [12] [13] [14] with an inclusive government [15] [16] if elected but lost the party nomination ticket to Emeka Ihedioha who later lost out to Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressive Congress at the 2015 gubernatorial election. After the 2019 general election in Imo state with the emergence of Emeka Ihedioha as the state governor,he was announced as a member of the transition committee. [17] [18] [19] [20] [21]
Odom married Lady Adaku Celine Odom,(née Nwakibu) the Managing Director of The Lifestyle Group in 1990 and together they have 8 children. [2] [22]
Abia State is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria,it is bordered to the northwest by Anambra State and northeast by the states of Enugu,and Ebonyi,Imo State to the west,Cross River State to the east,Akwa Ibom State to the southeast,and Rivers State to the south. Ifeanyi Godwin Ararume is a Nigerian politician who was appointed by the country's minister of Petroleum Resources,as the Chairman,board of management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited,in the wake of implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Hope Odidika Uzodimma is a Nigerian politician who has served as the governor of Imo State since 2020. On 14 January 2020,the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2019 governorship poll in Imo State,nullifying the election of the then-incumbent governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Chukwuemeka Ihedioha;born 24 March 1965) is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as governor of Imo State from 2019 to 2020. He was removed from office on 14 January 2020,by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which declared the APC candidate the authentic winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election. He was deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2011 to 2015.
Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu known as Sam Daddy is a Nigerian business executive and politician currently serving as the national secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since November 2021. He served as a senator in the 8th Nigeria National Assembly representing Imo East Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019 and sponsored the bill for the establishment of South East Development Commission passed by the 8th Senate but was vetoed by President Buhari. Placid Njoku is a Nigerian professor and politician who served as the deputy governor of Imo State from 2020 to 2024. He assumed office alongside his running mate Hope Uzodinma by the verdict of the Supreme Court annulling the election of incumbent Emeka Ihedioha. Njoku earlier served as the first Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Abia State.
The Akachi monument was a large sculpture situated along Aba Road,Owerri,Imo State in southeastern Nigeria. The monument was built on a reclaimed dumpsite and measured over 40 feet high. It was a massive tower with the symbol of a hand on the zenith which represents the hand of God. The sculpture was reserved for tourism purposes.
The 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election in Nigeria occurred on 9 March 2019. PDP's Emeka Ihedioha polled 38.29% of the total votes,defeating AA's Uche Nwosu who got 26.66% of popular votes,and several minor party candidates. Out of 27 LGAs,Ihedioha won in 11,while Nwosu won in 10.

The 2023 Abia State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Abia State,concurrent with elections to the Abia State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP governor Okezie Ikpeazu was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Alex Otti,a banker,gained the office for the Labour Party by a margin of victory over first runner-up and PDP nominee—Okey Ahiwe,the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.
The 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election was held on 11 November 2023 due to the belated inauguration of incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma,to elect the Governor of Imo State. Incumbent APC Governor Hope Uzodinma was re-elected,with him winning all the 27 local government areas. LP candidate Athan Achonu has filed a lawsuit against Uzodinma claiming that the election was "marred by irregularities,including vote buying and physical assaults of LP agents,and thus deserving of outright cancellation".
