Sam Ominyi Egwu CON (born 20 June 1954) is a Nigerian politician and member of People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria. He was elected Governor of Ebonyi State in the 1999 Ebonyi State gubernatorial election from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. [1] Dr Egwu is noted as pillar of educational development in Ebonyi state and Nigeria. [2] He attended the University of Nigeria,Nsukka where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Agriculture in 1981. He later received a master's degrees in Agricultural from the University of Nigeria,Nsukka in 1987 and Doctorate in Agronomy from Enugu State University of Technology in 1996. He was a senior lecturer at Enugu State University of Technology and served as commissioner for education in Ebonyi state contributed to the successes recorded in education sector during his tenure as governor. In 2008,President Umaru Yar'Adua appointed him Minister of Education,position he held till April 2010 when he was replaced by Professor Ruqayyah Ahmed Rufa'i. [4]
Egwu was former President Olusegun Obasanjo's choice to become National Chairman of the PDP at its 2008 National Convention. However,at the convention on 8 March 2008,he withdrew in favour of the compromise candidate Prince Vincent Ogbulafor,who was chosen as an alternative to Egwu and his main rival for the position,Anyim Pius Anyim. His stay as education minister was characterized by ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) and other university union strikes. This led to people demanding his sacking. [6]
In 2015,he successfully contested the senatorial seat for Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone on the platform of People's Democratic Party. [7] Currently,he is the Senate committee chairman on industry. [8] [9] He is from Ohaukwu LGA of the state.

Ambassador Frank Nchita Ogbuewu is a Nigerian political figure and a former Minister of Culture and Tourism for the country. His appointment as minister was confirmed in July 2003 by the Obasanjo administration. Frank Ogbuewu is on record as being the longest serving minister of the culture and tourism ministry in the Obasanjo administration. Prior to his appointment as minister of culture and tourism,he served as Nigeria's ambassador to Greece and was also a one time Chairman (1994–1996) of his local government council,Ikwo. His appointment as chairman (mayor) of Ikwo Local Government shot him into the political lime light and he has continued to be a proponent of youth development in his state. Ogbuewu who until August 2010 was a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) sought his former party's gubernatorial ticket in 2007 against incumbent governor of Ebonyi State,Chief Martin Elechi but lost. He later vied for the PDP national chairmanship position but was not successful. On August 28,2010,during the traditional marriage of his oldest daughter,Nnenna Ogbuewu,the Ambassador announced his intention to vie once again,for the office of governor in his home state of Ebonyi but this time,under a different party. His party of choice,the All Progressives Grand Alliance was made known in September 2010. On January 12,2011,Ambassador Ogbuewu was nominated by the All Progressives Grand Alliance with a total vote of 1852 to represent the party in the April 16,2011 gubernatorial election.
Anyim Pius Anyim is a Nigerian politician who served as the 9th president of the Nigerian Senate from 2000 to 2003,he was Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) during Goodluck Jonathan presidency. He was elected Senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999 for the Ebonyi South constituency of Ebonyi State and was elected president of the Senate in August 2000.

Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
