The City College of Hyderabad is an Under Graduate and Post-Graduate autonomous university located in Hyderabad, India. The campus is one of the oldest Heritage structures in Hyderabad. [1] [2] Government City College has been re-accredited with 'B++' grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council. It has been conferred with autonomy by the University Grants Commission, Osmania University and the Telangana State Government since 2004. The college has adopted CBCS since the academic year 2014-15.

History

The Nizam Mahbub Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VI of Hyderabad established the first city school in the name "Madarsa Dar-ul-uloom" as early as 1865, later Nizam Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, converted it into a City High School. The school moved into the present grand building in 1921. Intermediate sections (F.A) of Osmania University with 30 students were introduced in 1921 under the supervision of the high school with Urdu as the medium of instruction. In 1929, the school was upgraded to a college and was named as "City College". It became a constituent college of Osmania University. Its chief engineer was Nawab Khan Bahadur Mirza Akbar Baig. [1]

Syllabus and changes of name

Consequent to the abolition of the Intermediate course (FA) in Osmania University in 1956, the Pre-University Course (PUC) was introduced. The Bachelor of Science courses were introduced in 1962 and the institution was named as "City Science College". City College was taken over by the government from Osmania University in 1965 and was renamed as Government City Science College. In 1967, B.A and B.Com courses were added and the college became "Government City College". [3] The college offers 22 undergraduate programmes, including B.Sc, B.A., and B.Com.

Post Graduate Research Centre

The college was upgraded as a Research Center with the introduction of Master of Science Programs in Biotechnology, and Mathematics, in 2001 and 2003 respectively with 100% placement record. Physics, and Commerce were introduced in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Government City College was established in 1919 during the rule of the Nizam, Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII of erstwhile Hyderabad State. The campus is spread over 16 acres and the building is constructed on the banks of Musi River in the Indo-Saracenic style facing the open ground (now Quli Qutub Shah Stadium) and the Telangana High Court is adjacent to the college. [4] The College building has been declared as a Heritage Monument by the Government of Telangana, It has been a pan-India film shooting hub. [5]

Osmania University is a collegiate public state university located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The university was founded by and named after Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad in 1918. Mir Osman Ali Khan Last Nizam of Hyderabad

Mir Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, was the last Nizam (ruler) of the Princely State of Hyderabad. He ascended the throne on 29 August 1911, at the age of 25 and ruled the Kingdom of Hyderabad between 1911 and 1948, until India annexed it. He was styled as His Exalted Highness-(H.E.H.) the Nizam of Hyderabad, and was one of the wealthiest individuals of all time. On 22 February 1937, Time featured him on its cover as the world's richest person, with an inflation adjusted net worth of over $200 billion.

Osmania Medical College, formerly known as The Hyderabad Medical School, is a medical college in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It was founded in 1846 by the 5th Nizam of Hyderabad and Berar, Afzal ud Dowla, Asaf Jah 5. The college was originally affiliated to Osmania University system, It is now affiliated to the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, and the Osmania General Hospital. After the establishment of the Osmania University in 1919, the school was renamed Osmania Medical College, after the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan.

Afzal ad-Dawlah, Asaf Jah VMir Tahniyath Ali Khan Siddiqi was the ruling Nizam of Hyderabad, India, from 1857 to 1869.

Asaf Jahi dynasty

History of Hyderabad

Hyderabad is the capital of the Indian state of Telangana. It is a historic city noted for its many monuments, temples, mosques and bazaars. A multitude of influences has shaped the character of the city in the last 400 years.

1952 Mulkhi Agitation or Mulkhi Agitation was a political movement for the safeguarding of jobs in Hyderabad State government for native residents, or Mulkis. It was the first event in Telangana movement.

Telangana Housing Board earlier known as City Improvement Board is public sector corporation under Government of Telangana located in Hyderabad, Telangana. Its activities are to facilitate affordable housing to the citizens of Telangana. The board, which was formerly known as City Improvement Board until 1960, was conceived by Nizam Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII in 1911.

Nawab Mir Khudrath Nawaz Jung Bahadur

Nawab Mir Khudrath Nawaz Jung Bahadur (1896–1971) He was the youngest son of Nawab Mir Jahangir Ali Khan Bahadur, Jahangir Jung Bahadur who received Delhi Durbar silver medal in 1911. Jahangir Jung died at Hyderabad, before 9th November 1915. He was the son of Nawab Roshan-ud-Daulah Bahadur. He was the younger brother of The V Nizam of Hyderabad Afzal-ud-Daulah of the Asaf Jahi family of Hyderabad state. Nawab Mir Khuhdrath Nawaz Jung elder sister Sahebzadi Azmath unnisa Begum was the first legally wedded wife of the 7th Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan in the year 1920. He was the first brother-in-law of Nizam VII Mir Osman Ali Khan. and the Maternal uncle of Azam Jah, Moazzam Jah, and Shehzadi Pasha. He held many prestigious official positions in the Nizam's Darbar, Army and Administration Offices.
