Citywing (a trading name of Citywing Aviation Services Limited) was an Isle of Man-based company that sold seats on scheduled air flights operated under charter. [3] Flights linked several airports in the British Isles, with the company having a base at Isle of Man Airport. [4] Its head office was in Hangar 9 at Isle of Man Airport in Ballasalla.
From November 2012, managing director David Buck led a management buyout of Manx2. [5] [6] On 1 January 2013 the assets of Manx2 were acquired by the new company, Citywing, [7] and seats went on sale on the new company's website. The first Citywing-branded flight took off on 2 January 2013.
During 2014, the route network expanded to include flights from Glasgow to the Isle of Man. [5] Citywing took over the Cardiff to Anglesey public service obligation route in January 2016 after the previous operator went bankrupt. [8]
On 23 February 2017, Citywing Flight 502 (a Van Air Let L-410, OK-LAZ) to Belfast from Isle of Man Ronaldsway Airport was forced to turn back due to deteriorating weather conditions. The following day, Van Air lost its route licences. [9] As a result, Citywing contracted Sprint Air for certain flight services on 2 and 3 March. [10] On 10 March 2017, Citywing announced that after Van Air Europe's loss their UK license they had been unable to find a suitable business partner to operate its services. All flights from 11 March 2017 were terminated and the company was put into liquidation. [11] [9] Citywing cited heavy losses after the need to source leased aircraft to replace Van Air Europe on such short notice. [1]
Citywing operated regular scheduled flights to and from these destinations before its bankruptcy in March 2017.

As Citywing was a virtual airline without its own aircraft operations licence, it leased in chartered aircraft from Van Air Europe for all of its services. The aircraft leased from Van Air Europe were four leased Let L-410s.
Citywing temporarily chartered a Saab 340 from Sprint Air after the loss of its previous Van Air Let L-410s.
Prior to using Van Air Europe aircraft, Citywing leased a BAe Jetstream 31 from Links Air until the latter lost its UK operating licence.
Monarch Airlines, simply known as Monarch, was a British charter and scheduled airline founded by Bill Hodgson and Don Peacock and financed by the Swiss Sergio Mantegazza family. The company later became a low-cost airline in 2004 before abandoning charter flying completely. The airline's headquarters were based at London–Luton, and it had operating bases at Birmingham, Leeds/Bradford, London–Gatwick and Manchester.

George Best Belfast City Airport is a single-runway airport in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Situated in County Down, it is adjacent to the Belfast Harbour and is 3 miles (4.8 km) from Belfast City Centre. It shares the site with the Spirit AeroSystems aircraft manufacturing facility. The airport began commercial operations in 1983, and was known as "Belfast City Airport" until it was renamed in 2006 in memory of George Best, the professional footballer from Belfast. The airport has a CAA public use aerodrome licence that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction.

The company is registered as an airline whose main activities are passenger charter flights and cargo operations, organised either on charter chain flights or ad hoc flights. Trade Air also specialises in the transportation of dangerous goods.
Aurela was a charter airline based in Vilnius, Lithuania. It operated charter services for several tour operators in the Baltic states. Its main base was Vilnius International Airport.
Bournemouth Airport is an international airport located 3.5 NM north-northeast of Bournemouth, in southern England. The site opened as RAF Hurn in 1941, but was transferred to civil control in 1944. For a short period Hurn served as London's international airport, until the opening of facilities at Heathrow. Commercial services resumed in the late 1950s, with Palmair commencing flights to Palma, Majorca in October 1958.
West Atlantic UK Limited, formerly Atlantic Airlines Ltd is a British cargo airline based at East Midlands Airport. It operates contract and ad hoc cargo flights worldwide, especially within Europe as part of the West Atlantic Group. The company's fleet is composed of Boeing 737 and ATR72 aircraft. The airline specialises in the transport of dangerous goods and radioactive products and other specialist aerial work, including oil spill response, dispersant spraying and icing trials. The prime activity of the business is the supply and operating of aircraft to night-time freight integrators and consolidators and the operation of ad hoc air charters on behalf of other airlines, freight brokers and forwarders. Atlantic Airlines merged with the Swedish airline "West Air Europe" in 2008 to establish the West Atlantic Group.
European Aviation Air Charter was an airline based in Bournemouth, United Kingdom. It operated ad hoc charter services, VIP flights, and inclusive-tour and sub-charter flights, as well as ACMI wet leases for other airlines. Its main base was Bournemouth Airport. The company went into administration on Tuesday 2 December 2008.
Highland Airways was an airline based in Inverness, Scotland. It ceased trading on 24 March 2010 after failing to secure new investment. The airline operated passenger and freight charters as well as scheduled services from its main base at Inverness Airport. Other services included newspaper distribution to the northern and Western Isles and, until recently, charter services for corporate clients. Highland Airways was under talks for a buyout by Perth-based, Air Charter Scotland. Aircraft were also based at Cardiff Airport.
Blackpool Airport is an airport on the Fylde coast of Lancashire, England, in the Borough of Fylde, just outside the Borough of Blackpool. It was formerly known as Squires Gate Airport and Blackpool International Airport.
Gloucestershire Airport, formerly Staverton Airport, is a small airport at Churchdown, England. It lies 3.5 nautical miles west of Cheltenham, near the city of Gloucester and close to the M5 motorway. Its operator claims it to be Gloucestershire's largest general aviation airfield, and it is regularly used for private charter flights to destinations such as Jersey and Guernsey.
Isle of Man Airport is the main civilian airport on the Isle of Man. It is located in the south of the island at Ronaldsway near Castletown, 6 nautical miles southwest of Douglas, the island's capital. Along with the Isle of Man Sea Terminal, it is one of the two main gateways to the island. The airport has scheduled services to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
EuroManx was a Manx airline based at Ronaldsway Airport, which operated scheduled domestic passenger services as well as business charters. On 9 May 2008 the airline announced that it was ceasing all operations, citing rising fuel prices and reduced passenger numbers as the reasons.
Manx2 was a virtual commuter airline with its head office in Hangar 9, Isle of Man Airport in Ballasalla, Malew, Isle of Man. It sold flights and services from several airports in the UK with bases in Belfast City, Blackpool, Cardiff and Isle of Man. The flights were operated for Manx2 by a number of airlines, including Van Air Europe, FLM Aviation and Links Air. In December 2012 the assets of Manx2 were sold to Citywing and Manx2's last flight took place on 31 December 2012.
Stobart Air was an Irish regional airline based in Dublin, originating in 1970 and closing in 2021. It operated scheduled services under the brands Aer Lingus Regional, BA CityFlyer and KLM Cityhopper on behalf of their respective owners. Stobart Air had operating bases in Cork, Dublin and Belfast for Aer Lingus Regional.
VAN AIR Europe, a.s. is a Czech passenger and cargo charter airline headquartered in Brno and based at Brno–Tuřany Airport.
Links Air was a British airline selling and operating scheduled regional flights as well as charter services. It formerly operated scheduled flights out of Doncaster Sheffield Airport and public service obligation flights in Wales from Cardiff to Anglesey on behalf of the Welsh Government.
Waves was an airline based in Guernsey in the Channel Islands and a subsidiary of Waves Technologies Limited, a privately owned company. It planned to operate from its hub at Guernsey Airport to up to 15 regional airports in and around the Channel Islands. Waves also planned to undertake cargo and medevac activities, on demand.
Flybe, styled as flybe, was a British regional airline based at Birmingham Airport, England. It commenced operations using the name of a former airline in 2022, but ceased operations and entered administration on 28 January 2023.
