Classic Legends is an Indian television Hindi entertainment show based on the notable and talented people of the Hindi film industry. The first four seasons of the show were aired on Zee Classic. The fifth season airs on Zee Anmol Cinema, Zee Bollywood and Zee Cinema HD. The show is presented by popular Bollywood lyricist, Javed Akhtar. In the show, Javed Akhtar explores the lives of great artists from the golden era of Bollywood who graced the silverscreen with their powerful performances. The first season of show premièred on 11 December 2011 followed by four other seasons. [1] [2] [3]

Each episode takes on one artist while the series covers people who were popular actors, actresses, music composers, directors, singers and lyricists.

Season 1

The series is presented by Javed Akhtar. Every season has a total of 13 episodes, each exploring the life of a famous personality from the Hindi film Industry. The first season was aired from 11 December 2011 to 4 March 2012. The season featured stories of a variety of people from the film industry ranging from Raj Kapoor to Guru Dutt, Nargis to Kishore Kumar and lyricists like Sahir Ludhianvi to name a few.[ citation needed ]

Season 2

After an overwhelming response to the first season, the second season was aired barely eight months after the first season ended. The season was aired from 18 Nov 2012 – 10 Feb 2013. [4] In this season, Dilip Kumar's biography was extended to the next episode.So, instead of 13, biography of 12 personalities was shared. The season featured the anecdotes from the life of actors like Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, singer Mohammad Rafi and lyricist Shailendra. Meena Kumari was the only actress whose story featured in this season.

Season 3

The season three was aired from 2 November 2014 to 25 January 2015. Unlike other seasons, no lyricist was discussed, however, for the first time the life incidents of two singers were shared, instead of one. [5] This season featured stories of stars like Nutan and Sanjeev Kumar, directors like Yash Chopra and singer Lata Mangeshkar.[ citation needed ]

Season 4

After a gap of more than two years, the fourth season [6] was aired from 24 Sep 2017 – 17 Dec 2017. The season featured stories of artists like Rajendra Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, [7] singer Asha Bhosle and composers Laxmikant Pyarelal. The final episode of this season was touted as a tribute to veteran actor Shashi Kapoor who passed away thirteen days before the episode aired. [8]

Season 5

With the show doing fabulously well and on popular demand, the show was back with Season 5 commencing from 8 December 2018. It airs on 3 channels - Zee Anmol Cinema, Zee Bollywood and Zee Cinema HD. For the first time, biography of not one but two people featured in a single episode. Final episode of this season was aired on 2 March 2019.

The music was composed by R. D. Burman. Kranti (transl. Revolution) is a 1981 Indian historical drama film, produced, edited, dialogue and directed by Manoj Kumar, with the story and screenplay written by Salim–Javed. It stars an ensemble cast, consisting of Dilip Kumar in the title role along with Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi in pivotal roles. The film also marked the return of Dilip Kumar after a four-year hiatus. It ranks among the top 10 highest grossing Indian films of all time, when adjusted for ticket-price inflation. It was one of the most expensive Indian films of the time and it went on to become the highest grossing Indian film of the 1980s decade by a distance, when adjusted for inflation. Kranti is the biggest patriotic hit ever seen in India. It was the second highest grossing Indian film ever behind Sholay (1975) at the time of its release. The film stars Vyjayanthimala and Dilip Kumar in lead roles, with Pran and Johnny Walker in supporting roles. The plot focuses on Anand, a modern man who falls in love with a tribal woman named Madhumati. But they face challenges in their relationship finally leading to a paranormal consequence. The film was ranked 11th in the Outlook Magazine's 25 leading Indian directors' poll for selecting Bollywood's greatest films in 2003.

Sangam (transl.Confluence) is a 1964 Indian musical romantic drama directed, produced and edited by Raj Kapoor at R. K. Studios, written by Inder Raj Anand, and distributed by R. K. Films with Mehboob Studio and Filmistan. The film stars Kapoor, Vyjayanthimala and Rajendra Kumar in lead roles, with Iftekhar, Raj Mehra, Nana Palsikar, Lalita Pawar, Achala Sachdev and Hari Shivdasani in supporting roles. <i>Gunga Jumna</i> 1961 film by Nitin Bose

Ganga Jamna, also transliterated as Ganga Jamuna or Gunga Jumna, is a 1961 Indian crime drama film, written and produced by Dilip Kumar, and directed by Nitin Bose, with dialogues written by Wajahat Mirza; Kumar later said that he also ghost-directed and edited the film. It stars Dilip Kumar with Vyjayanthimala and his real-life brother Nasir Khan in the leading roles. Set in the rural Awadh region of Northern India, the film tells the story of two impoverished brothers, Ganga and Jamna, and their poignancy and sibling rivalry on opposing sides of the law, one a dacoit criminal and the other a police officer. Vyjayanthimala is an Indian actress, dancer and parliamentarian. Regarded as one of Indian cinema's finest actresses and dancers, she is the recipient of several accolades, including five Filmfare Awards and two BFJA Awards. She made her screen debut at the age of 16 with the Tamil film Vaazhkai (1949), and followed this with a role in the Telugu film Jeevitham (1950). Her first work in Hindi cinema was the social guidance film Bahar (1951), which she headlined, and achieved her breakthrough with the romance Nagin (1954).

<i>Betaab</i> 1983 Indian film

Betaab (Restless) is a 1983 Indian romance film written by Javed Akhtar, directed by Rahul Rawail and produced by Bikram Singh Dehal. The film stars Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh in their debut roles along with Shammi Kapoor. The music was composed by Rahul Dev Burman. The opening of Betaab started in 1981 with the presence of Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu, Raj Kapoor, and Dharmendra. Before the release of Betaab, Sunny Deol also had a small role in the film Main Inteqam Loonga 1982 which his father Dharmendra was the hero of the film. Betaab was a commercial success and went on to be one of the biggest hits of the year, emerging as the 2nd highest grossing Indian film of 1983. The film was remade in Telugu as Samrat in 1987, with Ramesh Babu and Sonam, and in Kannada as Karthik in 2011.

Immaan Dharam is a 1977 Bollywood action drama film, written by Salim–Javed, directed by Desh Mukherjee and produced by Premji. The film stars Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Aparna Sen, Helen and Prem Chopra. The music is by Laxmikant–Pyarelal. The movie did not do well on its release.

<i>Sunghursh</i> 1968 Indian film

Sunghursh ("Struggle") is a 1968 Indian Hindi film directed and produced by Harnam Singh Rawail. It is based on Layli Asmaner Ayna, a short story in Bengali language by Jnanpith Award-winning writer Mahasweta Devi, which presents a fictionalised account of a vendetta within a thuggee cult in the holy Indian town of Varanasi. It stars Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar, Jayant, Deven Verma, Durga Khote and Iftekhar. The film was the last one to see Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala working together. Sunghursh was an "Average" grosser at box-office and was the tenth highest grossing film of the year.

Insaaniyat is a 1974 Bollywood drama film directed by Prayag Raj. The film stars Shashi Kapoor, Madhu and Sujit Kumar in pivotal roles with Jayant, Jagdeep, Durga Khote, Krishan Dhawan, Roopesh Kumar and Kamal Kapoor in supporting roles.

<i>Dharmputra</i> 1961 Indian film

Dharmputra is a 1961 Hindi film directed by Yash Chopra based on a novel of the same name by Acharya Chatursen. This is Yash's second directorial venture. It was the first Hindi film to depict the partition of India, and Hindu fundamentalism. Produced by his elder brother B.R. Chopra, who was himself uprooted from Lahore, during the partition of India and established B.R. Films in Mumbai in 1956. The film dealt with issues of religious bigotry, fanaticism and communalism amidst the backdrop of the partition. Two years earlier, Yash Chopra had made his debut with Dhool Ka Phool (1959), steeped in Nehruvian secularism, wherein a Muslim brings up an "illegitimate" Hindu child and featured the classic song "Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega, Insaan Ki Aulaad Hai, Insaan Banega". The theme was reversed in this film as herein a Hindu family brings up an illegitimate Muslim child.
