Cleveland Junior Naval Academy (also known as Cleveland High School) was a magnet military academy high school in St. Louis, Missouri and was a part of the St. Louis Public Schools. Cleveland High School opened in 1915 as a comprehensive high school, merging with the Junior Naval Academy in 1984. The Junior Naval Academy was a magnet military academy, founded in 1981. [2] In 2006, the school moved from its original location on Louisiana Avenue ( 38°34′40″N90°14′34″W / 38.5777°N 90.2429°W / 38.5777; -90.2429 ) to the Pruitt Military Academy building on North 22nd Street, then, in 2010, it moved from Pruitt to the Southwest High School building at Arsenal and Kingshighway. [3] In 2021, the St. Louis Public Schools board voted to close the location effective the upcoming school year. [4]

Special activities

As a Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps NJROTC unit, cadets were offered many experiences that were only offered through the NJROTC program.

Activities

For the 20112012 school year, the school offered 17 activities approved by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA): baseball, boys and girls basketball, sideline cheer leading, boys and girls cross country, 11-man football, boys and girls soccer, softball, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls track and field, girls volleyball, wrestling, and speech and debate. [5] In addition to its current activities, Cleveland students have won several state championships, including:

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces with its headquarters in New Delhi, India. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis as a Tri-Services Organisation, comprising the Army, the Navy and the Air Wing, engaged in developing the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The soldier youth foundation in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schools, higher secondary, colleges and universities all over India. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and drill. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course. Emblem of NCC:The Emblem of NCC consist of 3 colours; Red, Dark Blue, Light Blue. These colours indicate Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Airforce respectively. The 17 Lotus indicates the 17 directories of India.

The Delaware Military Academy (DMA) is a publicly-funded charter high school in unincorporated New Castle County, Delaware and has a Wilmington postal address. The Academy was founded in 2003 by Charles Baldwin, a retired Master Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy, and Jack Wintermantel, a retired Colonel from the United States Army. All students are required to participate in the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, or NJROTC; DMA is the first successful all-JROTC military charter school in the US. DMA offers grades nine through twelve and has been designated a Blue Ribbon School. Though an application and interview are part of the enrollment process, there are no admissions requirements and its selections are governed by charter school law.

Bataan Military Academy High School in New Mexico

Bataan Military Academy was a tuition-free, co-ed, college-prep public day high school. All cadets were members of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Corps, the U.S. Navy's youth organization. Bataan opened at the beginning of the 2007–2008 school year with freshmen and sophomores. The school closed at the end of the 2015–2016 school year due to declining enrollment.

Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps US military program

The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps is a federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in high schools and also in some middle schools across the United States and at US military bases across the world. The program was originally created as part of the National Defense Act of 1916 and later expanded under the 1964 ROTC Vitalization Act.
