Cody Fry is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer based in Nashville, Tennessee. He gained national attention on the 14th season of American Idol making it to the top 48. He has released several solo albums since 2006. His work spans many genres including pop, orchestral pop, and soul. He is known for his orchestral pop compositions, including orchestral versions of covers. In 2021, he was nominated for a Grammy Award at the 64th edition in the category of Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals for his cover of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby."
He has collaborated and worked with a number of artists, including Cory Wong and Ben Rector. He's released eight albums and one compilation which include recent releases such as Pictures of Mountains (2021), Symphony Sessions (2022), and The End (2023).
Cody Fry, the son of orchestral composer Gary Fry, [1] is a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and musician. He moved to Nashville to study voice at Belmont University after graduating from New Trier High School in 2008, where he actively participated in various ensembles such as the symphony orchestra, choir opera, swing choir, and chorus. In 2015, Cody gained national recognition as one of the 48 final contestants on the 14th season of American Idol , leaving a lasting impression with his remarkable vocal abilities. [2]
In 2021, his song "I Hear a Symphony" became a hit on TikTok, [3] achieving massive success and climbing the Spotify Global Viral Charts, charting in 38 countries. This achievement solidified his reputation as an artist with global appeal and a unique musical style. Furthermore, Cody's talent as an arranger was acknowledged in 2021 when his cover of The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby received a Grammy nomination in the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals category. Flying is the fourth studio album released by Fry. [7] The album was recorded at Blackwatch Studio in Norman, Oklahoma and the orchestral score was mainly recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. [8] Fry scored and arranged all 14 songs on this album. [9]
The song "I Hear a Symphony" went viral on TikTok in 2021. It was a surprise hit and Fry has played the song in symphony orchestras across the United States, including at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. [10] [11]

The Nashville Symphony is an American symphony orchestra, based in Nashville, Tennessee. The orchestra is resident at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Pablo Ziegler is a Grammy Awards winning Argentine composer, pianist, arranger based in New York City. He is an exponent of nuevo tango, and has worked extensively as Ástor Piazzolla's regular pianist from 1978 until Piazzolla's retirement for health reasons in 1989. During their collaboration, they performed with Milva, Placido Domingo, Gary Burton among others. He played with Piazzolla's re-formed Conjunto 9 in 1983 for his Teatro Colón concert with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic. In 1985 Ziegler composed the music for the film Adios Roberto, and in 1990, he established the New Tango Quartet.
Vince Mendoza is an American composer, music arranger and conductor. He debuted as a solo artist in 1989, and is known for his work conducting the Metropole Orkest and WDR Big Band Köln, as well as arranging music for musicians such as John Scofield, Joni Mitchell, Michael Brecker and Björk. Over the course of his career, he has won seven Grammy Awards and one Latin Grammy Award and has been nominated for a total of 38 between the two awards.
The Metropole Orkest is a jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, and is the largest full-time ensemble of its kind in the world. A hybrid orchestra, it combines jazz, big band and classical symphony orchestra styles. Benjamin Evans Rector is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer based in Nashville, Tennessee. Rector is an independent artist, and releases music under his own label OK Kid Recordings. A self-taught instrumentalist, Rector began songwriting and learning guitar at age 16, and began performing locally in high school. While attending college at the University of Arkansas he would tour within an 8 hour driving radius on the weekends. An early success saw him being the youngest grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting contest in 2006 with the song "Conversation" from his self-titled extended play (EP). He released his first studio album Twenty Tomorrow in 2007, followed by Songs that Duke Wrote in 2008. 2010's Into the Morning would peak at No. 11 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. John Fields is an American record producer, recording engineer, mixer, and musician. The Old Friends Acoustic Tour is a 2020, 2023, and 2024 concert tour from American singer-songwriter Ben Rector. The original tour, featuring Cody Fry, was slated to perform throughout the first half of 2020, but enforced lockdowns amidst the growing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States saw the tour cancelled after 4 performances, compromising 12 concerts. The tour was later revived in 2023 featuring Jordy Searcy and Stephen Day, performing an additional 27 concerts. Two additional dates were performed in October 2024. The concert is named after Rector's single "Old Friends".
