The International Rugby League (IRL) is the global governing body for the sport of rugby league football. Previously known as the Rugby League Imperial Board, the International Rugby League Board and latterly the Rugby League International Federation, the IRL is responsible for the Laws of the Game, the development, organisation and governance of rugby leagues internationally, and for the sport's major international tournaments; most notably the Rugby League World Cup.
The Peru national rugby team, nicknamed los Tumis, is an emerging team in the Americas and a member of the Confederación Sudamericana de Rugby (Consur).
The Jamaica national rugby league team represents Jamaica in international rugby league tournaments. Administered by the Jamaica Rugby League Association, the team made their full international debut at the 2009 Atlantic Cup against the United States.
The Colombia national rugby union team is classified as a tier three nation by World Rugby. They have thus far not qualified for a Rugby World Cup, but have participated in qualifying tournaments. Colombia made their debut against Mexico in 1996. In 2018, the Colombians won their first significant international honour, winning the inaugural Americas Rugby Challenge, the 'B' championship to the Americas Rugby Championship.
South American Rugby Championship refers to the continental rugby championships for South America, organized by Sudamérica Rugby. The current name of the championships is South American Six Nations, implemented in 2018. Throughout history, South American Championships have also existed for lower divisions of the rugby union championships, as well as youth and women tournaments, and editions for rugby sevens.

Popular sports include baseball, basketball, rugby union, tennis, golf, volleyball, hockey, beach volleyball, motorsports and cricket. South America held its first Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. Two years prior to this, major cities in Brazil hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The Americas Rugby Championship, often informally called the Americas' Six Nations, was an annual international rugby tournament between six North and South American nations: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States and Uruguay. Originally competed by various interlocking combinations of club, second-tier national and top national sides, the current international tournament has the top national sides competing. The current format provides these top national teams with additional test matches to be counted in the World Rugby Rankings.
Sudamérica Rugby, is the governing body for rugby union within South America and most of Central America. It was created on 14 October 1988 in Asunción on the initiative of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, counting with a total of 16 unions.

The Chilean Rugby Federation is the governing body for rugby union in Chile. The Federation is responsible for the various national teams representing Chile in international competitions. The Federation is a member of several international organizations, such as World Rugby, and Sudamérica Rugby. The Federation is led by President Francisco Davanzo Pumarino. The Federation includes over 18,000 players.
The Latin Heat Rugby League is a multi-national rugby league team focused on providing people of Central and South American residency or heritage a chance to play international rugby league and also help kick-start competitions in each individual Central and South American nation. Latin Heat was initially formed from Australian-based Latinos, but has since expanded to incorporate players from across Latin America, USA, UK and New Zealand.
The Chile national rugby league team represents Chile in rugby league. The team is operated by Futbol a 13 Chile and sanctioned by the Rugby League International Federation to represent Chile at international level in the sport of rugby league.
The Brazil national rugby league team represents Brazil in the sport of rugby league. The nation made its international debut at the inaugural Latin American Rugby League Championship held in Los Ángeles, Chile in November 2017, losing to the hosts in their first international match. The team are currently ranked 41st as of November 2019, in the IRL World Rankings.
The Ecuador national rugby league team represents Ecuador in rugby league. They made their debut at the first ever Latino Sevens on 17 October 2015 against Peru.
The Mexico national rugby league team represents Mexico in the sport of rugby league. The team is operated by the Mexico Rugby League and sanctioned by the Rugby League International Federation to represent Mexico at international level in the sport of rugby league.
The 2021 Men's Rugby League World Cup qualifying process began in June 2018 with the commencement of the 2018–19 Rugby League European Championship C tournament. Of the 16 nations that will compete in the World Cup, eight were granted automatic qualification, having reached the quarter finals of the 2017 World Cup. The remaining eight places were decided through a qualifying process.
The 2018 South American Rugby League Championship will be held in São Paulo, Brazil and is going to be held on the 23rd to the 25th of November 2018. The tournament is the inaugural South American Championship. The teams participating in the tournament are Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. The South American Cup also includes a women's international between the Brazilian women's team and Argentinian women's team and a second division game between Brazil and Argentina, as well as an Under-17's match between Brazil and Argentina.

ESPN Latin America is the Latin American division of ESPN Inc., and broadcasts sports-related programming for the region in Spanish. It was launched on 31 March 1989. Its programming is adapted to the likes of viewers, who tend to prefer football and Hispanic baseball players to the more locally produced programs.
