Countdown is the first Japanese-language studio album (fifth overall) by South Korean boy band Exo. It was released by Avex Trax and SM Entertainment Japan on January 31, 2018. [1] The album contains previously released Japanese tracks along with four new songs, including the lead song "Electric Kiss". [2]
On November 4, 2017, Exo was announced to be releasing their first Japanese studio album on January 24, 2018. [3] Ahead of the release of the music video for "Electric Kiss", Exo shared individual member teaser clips from November 18 to November 25 for their upcoming Japanese album. [4] The release was later postponed to January 31, 2018. [5] Member Lay is heard in the six previously released songs but did not participate in recording for the new songs due to conflicts with his promotional schedules in China.
Exo performed "Electric Kiss" for the first time on January 26, 2018 on the Japanese morning TV show Sukkiri. [6] On January 27 and 28, Exo added "Electric Kiss" and "Cosmic Railway" to the set list of their tour Exo Planet #4 – The ElyXion in Saitama and Osaka.
The album debuted atop the Oricon Weekly Album Chart, making Exo the first international group to have their first single and full album in Japan reach number one on Oricon's weekly chart. [7] [8] Countdown also continued in first place on Oricon's daily album chart for three consecutive days after its release, marking first place four times in total during the first week.
According to Oricon, Exo's album recorded an estimated 89,000 units in sales within the first week of release. [9]
On February 9, 2018, the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) announced that Countdown had sold over 100,000 copies and received a gold certification. The album reached the benchmark within only ten days of its release on January 31, 2018. [10]

"Electric Kiss" is a song by South Korean–Chinese boy band Exo, released on January 31, 2018, as the lead single of their first Japanese album Countdown.
Exo is a South Korean-Chinese boy band produced by SM Entertainment. Initially sparated into subgroups Exo-K and Exo-M, respectively performing music in Korean and Mandarin, the band debuted on April 8, 2012 with the single, "Mama". Kim Jong-in, better known by his stage name Kai (Korean: 카이), is a South Korean singer, model, actor, and dancer. Kim Jun-myeon, better known by his stage name Suho, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actor. He is the leader of the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo and its sub-unit Exo-K. He debuted as a soloist on March 30, 2020, with the release of his extended play (EP) Self-Portrait. Outside of his musical career, Suho has also starred in various television dramas and movies such as One Way Trip (2016), The Universe's Star (2017), Rich Man (2018), Middle School Girl A (2018), How Are U Bread (2020) and Behind Your Touch (2023).
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 is the third extended play by South Korean boy band BTS. Released on April 29, 2015, by Big Hit Entertainment, the nine-track album was made available in two versions, with "I Need U" as its lead single and "Dope (쩔어)" as a promoted follow-up single.
Ex'Act is the third studio album by South Korean boy band Exo. It was released by SM Entertainment in Korean and Chinese versions on June 9, 2016. Are You Happy? is the fifteenth studio album of the Japanese idol group Arashi. The album was released on October 26, 2016 under their record label J Storm in two editions: a first press/limited edition and a regular edition. The multi-national boy group was formed by SM Entertainment in 2016 and comprises multiple sub-units that occasionally reunite to release new music as NCT and NCT U. In 2018, the group released their first studio album, NCT 2018 Empathy, which peaked at number two on South Korea's Circle Album Chart and received a 2× platinum certification, awarded by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA). Girls is the debut Japanese extended play by Exo-CBX, the first official sub-unit of the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo. It was released on May 24, 2017 by Avex Trax and distributed by Avex Music Creative. The EP features seven tracks in total including the Japanese version of their debut Korean single Hey Mama! and a bonus track that will be included only in the first edition of the album.
Mai Kuraki x Meitantei Conan Collaboration Best 21: Shinjitsu wa Itsumo Uta ni Aru! is the fourth greatest hits album by Japanese singer-songwriter Mai Kuraki. Chinese boy band and the fourth overall sub-unit of the South Korean boy band NCT, WayV, has released two studio album, one reissue, four extended plays (EP), one single album, and eleven singles with SM Entertainment's Chinese sub-label, Label V. WayV debuted in 2019 with the single album The Vision, with a Chinese version of NCT 127's "Regular" as the lead single. Exist is the seventh studio album by South Korean boy band Exo. It was released on July 10, 2023, by SM Entertainment. Exist is the group's first album to be promoted as a seven-member group, as member Kai is currently undergoing mandatory military service The album features vocal performances from all eight Korean members, including Kai.
