Crenobia is a genus of planarians in the family Planariidae. It is endemic to Europe and Anatolia. [1]
The genus Crenobia includes planarians with an extremely thick muscle coat surrounding the genital atrium. The copulatory bursa it relatively small when compared to other genera of freshwater planarians. [1]
The genus Crenobia occurs in Anatolia and across most of Europe, including several islands in the Mediterranean Sea, although it seems to be absent in most of the Iberian Peninsula. [1]
The following species are currently recognized in the genus Crenobia: [1]
Planaria is a genus of planarians in the family Planariidae.
The Circaea, or enchanter's nightshades, are a genus of flowering plants in the evening primrose family Onagraceae. About two dozen taxa have been described, including eight species. Plants of the genus occur throughout the temperate and boreal forests of the Northern Hemisphere. Three taxa occur in North America: Circaea alpina, Circaea canadensis, and the hybrid Circaea × sterilis. The generic name Circaea refers to the enchantress Circe from Greek mythology who is said to have used the herb as a charm.
Planariidae is a family of freshwater planarians.
Romankenkius is a genus of freshwater planarian in the family Dugesiidae.
Geoplanidae is a family of flatworms known commonly as land planarians or land flatworms.
Dugesiidae is a family of freshwater planarians distributed worldwide. The type genus is Dugesia Girard, 1850.
Girardia is a genus of freshwater planarians belonging to the family Dugesiidae.
Schmidtea is a genus of freshwater triclads. Species of the genus Schmidtea are widely used in regeneration and developmental studies.
Dendrocoelidae is a family of freshwater tricladida flatworms that has a holarctic distribution.
Dugesia notogaea is a species of dugesiid triclad that inhabits freshwater bodies of north Queensland, Australia.
Dugesia japonica is a species of freshwater planarian that inhabits freshwater bodies of East Asia, including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and northeastern Siberia. However, molecular studies suggest that Dugesia japonica is polyphyletic and different populations across its area of occurrence constitute distinct species.
Cura is a genus of freshwater flatworm (triclads) belonging to the family Dugesiidae.
Weissius capaciductus is a species of dugesiid triclad found in Australia. It is the only species in the monotypic genus Weissius.
Neppia is a genus of dugesiid triclad that is found in South America, Subantarctic region, Africa, Tasmania and New Zealand.
Reynoldsonia reynoldsonia is a freshwater dugesiidae triclad found in Australia. It is the only species in the genus Reynoldsonia. It was named in honor of Professor Trefor B. Reynoldson.
Geoplaninae is a subfamily of land planarians endemic to the Neotropical region. Members of this family are sometimes referred to as the Neotropical land planarians. However, one species, Obama nungara has been introduced in Europe.
The reproductive system of planarians is broadly similar among different families, although the associated structures can vary in complexity.
Dendrocoelum lacteum, the milk-white planarian, is a freshwater planarian found in lakes and running waters in Europe, being the most widespread freshwater planarian in this continent.
Roman Kenk was a Slovenian, later American, zoologist.
Crenobia alpina, known as the alpine flatworm, is a species of triclad belonging to the family Planariidae. They are found across the Alps.
