The Darul Ridzuan Museum (Malay : Muzium Darul Ridzuan) is a museum in Ipoh, Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia.

History

The museum building was originally constructed in 1926 as a house for a wealthy tin miner named Foo Choong Kit. [1] In 1950, the house was sold to Perak Government in which it was then used to house the administrative center of the Department of Works [2] It was then opened as a museum in 1992. [3]

Architecture

The museum building was constructed with British architectural style. It has two floors with eight rooms on the top floor and two rooms on the ground floor. Behind the main building there are another four rooms. It has a total floor area of 1.6 hectares. [4]

Exhibitions

The museum exhibits the history and development of the mining and agriculture sectors of Ipoh. [3]

Gangga Negara was a semi-legendary Malay-Hindu kingdom mentioned in the Malay Annals. Researchers believe that the kingdom was centred at Beruas and it collapsed after an attack by King Rajendra Chola I of Tamilakam, between 1025 and 1026. According to another Malay annals, the Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa known as the Kedah Annals, Gangga Negara may have been founded by Merong Mahawangsa's son Raja Ganji Sarjuna of Kedah, allegedly a descendant of Alexander the Great or by the Khmer royalties no later than the 2nd century. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Panglima Bukit Gantang</span> Malaysian politician (1905–1959)

Tan Sri Dato' Seri Haji Abdul Wahab bin Toh Muda Abdul Aziz, also known by his title Dato' Panglima Bukit Gantang, was a Malaysian nationalist politician and barrister who became the 1st Menteri Besar of Perak from 1 February 1948 to 1 August 1957 and the first Secretary General of UMNO from 1946 to 1947. He was granted the Orang Besar Lapan title of Panglima Bukit Gantang, indicating that he was descended from monarchy and aristocracy in Perak. Notably, when he was admitted to the English Bar in 1930, he became the first Malay lawyer in the United Kingdom.
