History

The museum was constructed on a land belonged to the Malaysian Agricultural Development Authority at a cost of MYR24.7 million. [2] It was inaugurated and opened on 12 October 2004 by Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim. [3] [4]

Architecture

The museum is a 3-story building with a total area of 12,000 m2. [5] It resembles bushels of harvested rice stalks decorated with rice motifs. [6] The murals on the museum wall was done by 60 artists from North Korea. [7]

Exhibitions

The museum exhibits paddy cultivation process in Malaysia and the tools and equipment for the process over the past decades.

Gangga Negara

Gangga Negara is believed to be a lost semi-legendary Malay-Hindu kingdom mentioned in the Malay Annals that covered present day Beruas, Dinding and Manjung in the state of Perak, Malaysia with Raja Gangga Shah Johan as one of its kings. Researchers believe that the kingdom was centred at Beruas and it collapsed after an attack by King Rajendra Chola I of Coromandel, South India, between 1025 and 1026. Another Malay annals Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa known as Kedah Annals, Gangga Negara may have been founded by Merong Mahawangsa's son Raja Ganji Sarjuna of Kedah, allegedly a descendant of Alexander the Great or by the Khmer royalties no later than the 2nd century.

Alor Setar Tower is a 165.5 m (543 ft) telecommunication tower in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia.

Wan Mat Saman Aqueduct or Terusan Wan Mat Saman is the longest aqueduct in Malaysia. The total length is 36 km, connecting Sungai Kedah at Alor Star to Gurun in the south of Kedah. It was built between 1885 and 1896 at the order of Menteri Besar of Kedah at the time, Wan Mat Saman. The structure enables Kedah to boost its rice production and through it, enables Kedah to earn the nickname "Malaysia's rice bowl".
