The Istana Batu Royal Museum (Malay : Muzium Diraja Istana Batu) is a museum in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia.

History

The museum building was constructed in 1939 during the reign of Sultan Ismail ibni Sultan Muhammad IV as a wedding gift for his nephew Sultan Yahya Petra. [1] Sultan Yahya Petra lived in the building until 1960 and moved to Kota Lama Palace once he ascended the throne. After he moved out, the building was renovated and became the official residence of Tengku Salwani binti Sultan Yahya Petra until 1969.

The building eventually became the palace for Sultan Ismail Petra until 1972. Later, it was donated to Kelantan State Government. On 25 July 1991, the building was converted into a museum and officiated by Sultan Ismail Petra. [2] [3] [4]

Architecture

The building is a yellow structure. [5] Its interior rooms are the intersection, dining room, kitchen, drawing room, hallway and bed room. [4]

Exhibitions

The museum displays various belongings of the Sultan of Kelantan, such as photographs, costumes, artifacts, furniture etc. [2]

Opening time

The museum opens everyday except Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Sultan Ismail Petra ibni Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra was the 28th Sultan of Kelantan from 30 March 1979 to 13 September 2010. He succeeded on the death of his father, Sultan Yahya Petra. He died in Kota Bharu on 28 September 2019, aged 69, after 10 years of suffering from a major stroke and was buried in the Kelantan Royal Mausoleum. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Sultan Muhammad V who ascended the throne on 13 September 2010.

Sultan Ismail Petra Airport is an airport that operates in Kota Bharu, a city in the state of Kelantan in Malaysia. The airport is named after Ismail Petra of Kelantan, the twenty eight Sultan of Kelantan, who ruled from 1979 to 2010. The present new terminal was officially opened in September 2002. The 12,000 m² airport terminal has three aircraft stands, three aerobridges and is able to handle maximum capacity 1.45 million passengers. The airport consists of 9 check-in counters and offers flights between a total of 7 domestic destinations from Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Firefly, and Malindo Air. In 2014, this made it the busiest airport in the East Coast.

He was proclaimed Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 13 December 2016. Muhammad V became the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong to abdicate from the throne, effective 6 January 2019, while his term was to end on 12 December 2021.

Tengku Putra

Tengku Dato' Setia Putra Al-Haj bin Tengku Azman Shah Al-Haj is a Malaysian corporate figure and a member of the Selangor Royal Family and Kelantan Royal Family. He is the first son of Tengku Bendahara Tengku Azman Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah and the cousin of the current Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. He is currently holding the position as Selangor Palace Major Chief and been re-appointed as a royal council members on 11 December 2016 as one of the members in advisory body to the Sultan of Selangor.

Raja Perempuan Tengku Anis binti Almarhum Tengku Abdul Hamid is the former Raja Perempuan of Kelantan. She is the widow of Sultan Ismail Petra and the mother of the current Sultan, Sultan Muhammad V. She is now styled as Yang Maha Mulia Raja Perempuan Tengku Anis.
