The Kedah State Art Gallery (Malay : Balai Seni Negeri Kedah) is an art gallery in Alor Setar, Kota Setar District, Kedah, Malaysia.
The construction of the gallery building started on 21 January 1893 and finished in 1912 as the high court building and was officially opened by Kedah Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim of Kedah as the earliest modern government building in Alor Setar. By 1931, the high court had completed their relocation to a new building beside the Federal Building, the original building was repurposed to accommodate the Audit Department, State Treasury and British Advisory Office, and would later be used to house the Public Works Department and Sewerage and Drainage Department. [1] To mark the silver jubilee of Sultan Abdul Halim in 1983, the building was converted into an art gallery and was officiated and opened to the public by the Sultan on 25 July 1983. [2]
Originally design by architect Muhammad bin Lebai Thambi of the Kedahan Public Works Department, [2] the building adopts an eclectic combination of neoclassical and Sino-Portuguese architectures, with strong Palladian motifs and colonnades from the former mixed with Baroque ornamentation and extensive use of arches from the latter; of note is the presence of the Kedahan shield in the ornamentation over every arch of the building. [3] [1] The building is fronted by an open court comprising a public square and park. [1]
The gallery displays various art works made by Kedah people, such as painting, wood carving and calligraphy. [2]
The gallery is accessible within walking distance north west of Alor Setar railway station.

It is the 12th district of Kedah which was formerly a subdistrict of Kota Setar, about 20 km east of Alor Setar. The declaration of the 24,000ha district with a population of 50,000 was made by the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah in conjunction with his 81st birthday. The district is divided into 6 sub-districts: Gajah Mati, Jabi, Tualang, Lesong, Bukit Lada, Derang and consists of 122 villages and 21 residential areas. They are among the earliest settlers in the Malay peninsula. The school is nickname as Jenan. Paduka Sri Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Adilin Mu'adzam Shah II ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Halim Shah I was the 19th Sultan of Kedah. He reigned from 1710 to 1778 and is widely known as the founder of Alor Setar and many current landmarks in the city are attributed to him. Che Puan Besar Hajjah Haminah, formerly known as Sultanah Haminah is the former Sultanah consort of Malaysian State of Kedah and is the widow of Sultan Abdul Halim Mua'dzam Shah. Born a commoner from Bagan Serai, Perak, she married Sultan Abdul Halim on 25 December 1975, and as his second wife, she was styled as Yang Teramat Mulia Che Puan Kedah. She was crowned Sultanah on 9 January 2004 at the Balai Penghadapan Istana Anak Bukit following the death of Tuanku Bahiyah, the previous Sultanah and first wife of Sultan Abdul Halim. She served as the 14th Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia from 2011 to 2016, during her husband's second term as Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Malaysian federal head of state. After her husband's death in September 2017, her brother-in-law, Sultan Sallehuddin bestowed the title of Yang Maha Mulia Che Puan Besar of Kedah Darul Aman or equivalent to a queen dowager.

Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah is the 29th Sultan of Kedah, Malaysia. He was proclaimed Sultan on 12 September 2017, upon the death of his elder half brother, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.
Setul, officially the Kingdom of Setul Mambang Segara was a traditional Malay kingdom founded in the northern coast of Malay Peninsular. The state was established in 1808 in wake of the partition between the rulers in the Royal House of Kedah. The partition witnessed the territory being seceded to the cadet branch of the royal family. The sovereignty of the kingdom effectively ended in 1916, following the dissolution by the Siamese government. Its borders were largely inherited to its successive province, the present-day Satun, Thailand.
