The Moncton Miracles were a Canadian professional basketball team in Moncton,New Brunswick. Established in 2011,they were a charter member of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). Jason Godin is a former mayor of Maisonnette,New Brunswick in Canada. At 19 years old,he was elected to the municipal election May 14,2012,and took office May 28,2012 as the youngest mayor in the history of New Brunswick. Godin decided to run for mayor when he learned that the incumbent,Lucio Cordisco,would not stand for reelection if there were other candidates. On February 12,2015,he announced that he would seek the federal New Democratic Party nomination in the riding of Acadie—Bathurst for the 2015 federal election. He won the nomination,but was defeated by Liberal Serge Cormier in the general election. Godin did not seek re-election in the 2016 municipal election.
The Moncton shootings were a string of shootings that took place on June 4,2014,in Moncton,in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The perpetrator,Justin Bourque,a 24-year-old Moncton resident,walked around the northern area of the city and shot five officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP),killing three and severely injuring two. A manhunt for Bourque was launched and continued overnight and into June 5. On June 6,Bourque was found and taken into custody,ending a manhunt that lasted over 28 hours. The shooting was both Moncton's first homicide since 2010 and the deadliest attack on the RCMP since the Mayerthorpe tragedy in 2005,which left four RCMP officers dead. Bourque intended for the shootings to trigger a rebellion against the Canadian government. He was sentenced to 75 years in prison,with no eligibility for parole until after serving 25 years.

They were originally supposed to be held May 11,2020,but were postponed one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic in New Brunswick. Furthermore,elections in some municipalities in Northwestern New Brunswick were held on May 25 due to those areas being under lockdown. Elections were also held for district education councils and regional health authorities,and there were two plebiscites.
