Michael L. MacDonald (born May 4,1955) is a Canadian politician and a Conservative member of the Canadian Senate. He was appointed on the advice of Stephen Harper to the Senate on January 2,2009. [1]
MacDonald was born in Louisbourg,the youngest of 10 children. [2] In 1977,he graduated from University of King's College in Halifax with an Honours degree in political science.
MacDonald worked as a researcher for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada Research Office from 1978 to 1980. He then worked in the office of MLA Gerald Sheehy from 1980 to 1982 and then as Executive Assistant to Premier John Buchanan from 1982 to 1984. He was also Executive Assistant to Thomas McMillan from 1984 to 1985,and then to Stewart McInnes from 1985 to 1987. [2]
He has been the owner of the Fortress Inn in Louisbourg since 1988. [2]
In 1988,he ran for federal office in Cape Breton—East Richmond,placing second with 7,173 votes. In 1993,he ran provincially for the Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia in the riding of Dartmouth-Cole Harbour,placing second with 2,905 votes. He ran in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour again in 1998,placing third with 2,084 votes. He ran federally in 2004 in the riding of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour,placing third with 8,739 votes. [2]
On February 16,2022,during the convoy protest in Ottawa,MacDonald was recorded in a video making derisive remarks about the city's residents,saying,"I’m so sick of the entitlement in this country and this f------ city. Everybody around this city,with their six-figure salaries and twenty-hour weeks." He also expressed support for the protesters,saying,"...in Ottawa I don't want them to leave," and described his wife as "a Karen" for wanting the protest to end. [3] [4]
MacDonald later read a statement in the Senate chamber to apologize for his remarks. [4] [5] [6]
MacDonald lives in Dartmouth,Nova Scotia,with his wife Marilyn,and their two sons,Lauchlan and Liam. [2]

William D. Casey is a Canadian politician from Nova Scotia who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of Canada. First elected as a Progressive Conservative in 1988,he later sat as Conservative MP following the party merger in 2003. In 2007,Casey was expelled from the party for voting against the 2007 budget,but he was reelected as an Independent in the 2008 election and sat as such until he resigned his seat in 2009 to work on behalf of the Nova Scotian government for provincial interests in Ottawa. Casey decided to return to federal politics in the 2015 federal election and running as a Liberal easily took the seat with 63.73% of the popular vote.
Darrell Elvin Dexter is a Canadian lawyer,journalist and former naval officer who served as the 27th premier of Nova Scotia from 2009 to 2013. A member of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party,he served as party leader from 2001 to 2013. He became Premier in 2009 after his party defeated the governing Progressive Conservative Party,leading the first NDP government in Atlantic Canada and the second east of Manitoba. His government was defeated in the 2013 election,becoming the first Nova Scotia government in 131 years to be denied a second mandate;Dexter himself was defeated in his constituency by 21 votes. Dexter now serves as a lobbyist for the cannabis industry.

On May 2,2011,Chisholm was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Dartmouth—Cole Harbour riding in Nova Scotia. As a member of the Official Opposition,he served as the Critic for Fisheries and Oceans and Deputy Critic for Employment Insurance until his defeat in the 2015 election.

He served as the NDP's justice critic in the 36th Canadian Parliament. Mancini represented the riding of Sydney—Victoria until the 2000 federal election when he was defeated by Liberal Mark Eyking. He moved to Dartmouth,Nova Scotia following his electoral defeat. He was unsuccessful in his attempt at a comeback in the 2006 federal election in the riding of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour losing to incumbent Michael Savage by just over 4,000 votes.
