During the period between World War I and World War II, he was second only to cowboy film legend Tom Mix as a box office draw.

He made 120 appearances and scored 19 goals in all competitions for Birmingham over a ten-year career, and helped them win the championship of the Football League Second Division in 1920–21. He then moved to First Division Manchester United where he made 12 appearances without scoring; they were relegated that season.

Lieutenant Gibson (1897–1900) was an American thoroughbred racehorse that was bred in Kentucky and is best remembered for winning the 1900 Kentucky Derby. His winning time of 2:06​14 stood as the Derby record for 11 years. Lieut. Gibson also won the Latonia Derby, Clark Stakes and Flatbush Stakes as a three-year-old. He was the crowd favorite for the 1900 running of the American Derby, but ran third.

The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2 was the second-highest level of play in women's flat track roller derby from 2013 through 2017. Comprising different structures over that time, in early 2018 the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced it was replacing the Division 2 Playoffs with geographically-based Continental Cups, the structure and quantity of which is expected to adjust and possibly expand over time.
