East Gillespie is a village in Macoupin County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 269. [2]
East Gillespie is located in southeastern Macoupin County at 39°8′14″N89°48′53″W / 39.13722°N 89.81472°W (39.137337, −89.814663). [3] It is bordered to the south by the city of Gillespie. Illinois Route 4 runs through the village, leading north 11 miles (18 km) to Carlinville, the Macoupin county seat, and south 9 miles (14 km) to Staunton. Illinois Route 16 runs through the southeast part of the village, leading northeast 9 miles (14 km) to Litchfield and west through Gillespie 29 miles (47 km) to Jerseyville.

As of the census [5] of 2000, there were 234 people, 91 households, and 65 families residing in the village. The population density was 735.9 inhabitants per square mile (284.1/km2). There were 97 housing units at an average density of 305.1 per square mile (117.8/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.72% White, 0.43% African American, 0.43% Pacific Islander, and 0.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population.
There were 91 households, out of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% were non-families. 23.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.09.
