Eleutherodactylus gossei is a species of frog in the family Eleutherodactylidae. It is endemic to Jamaica where it is widespread. [1] [2] [3] An introduced population existed in Bermuda but appears to have been extirpated. [1] [2] The specific name gossei honors Philip Henry Gosse, an English naturalist, missionary, and science writer. [4] Its common names are Jamaican forest frog [3] and Spaldings robber frog, [2] [4] the latter apparently after Spaldings, its type locality. [2]
Two subspecies are recognized: [2] [5]
Adult Eleutherodactylus gossei gossei males measure 21–28 mm (0.8–1.1 in) and females 20–34 mm (0.8–1.3 in) in snout–vent length. The most common pattern of the dorsum is mottled or unicolor, depending on the area. Specimens with dorsolateral stripes, middorsal hairline, or purple stripes are less frequent. The ground color is a shade of brown, ranging from rich reddish brown to tan. The venter is usually creamy to faintly yellowish, whereas the throat is highly variable. The groin and the concealed surfaces are red (or pink) to orange. [5]
Eleutherodactylus gossei oligaulax is only found in extreme eastern parts of Jamaica and is smaller than the nominotypical subspecies. Males grow to a snout–vent length of 23 mm (0.91 in) and females to 26 mm (1.0 in). Most individual have a middorsal hairline in their dorsum or are unicolor. Individuals with dorsolateral stripes are common whereas mottled individuals are rare. [5]
Eleutherodactylus gossei occurs in a variety of mesic habitats, including rural gardens and former forests, at elevations below 1,515 m (4,970 ft). It is widespread and can be common in suitable habitat. It is threatened by habitat loss caused by, for example, intensive agricultural practices and infrastructure development. It occurs in the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park and in some forest reserves. [1]
The lovely poison frog or lovely poison-arrow frog is a species of frog in the family Dendrobatidae. It is found on the Caribbean versant of Central America from southeastern Nicaragua through Costa Rica to northwestern Panama, with one record just west of the Panama Canal. Populations from the Pacific versant, formerly included in this species, are now identified as Phyllobates vittatus.
Scinax altae is a species of frog in the family Hylidae. It is endemic to Panama where it occurs in the Pacific lowlands between the Chiriquí Province in the west and Panamá Province in the east. The type series was collected by Emmett Reid Dunn and his wife from "Summit" in the Panama Canal Zone in 1932.
Scinax ruber is a species of frog in the family Hylidae. It is known in English as the red snouted treefrog or red-snouted treefrog, sometimes also Allen's snouted treefrog, the latter referring to the now-synonymized Scinax alleni. This widespread species is found in much of Amazonian and northern coastal South America and into Panama, as well as in some Caribbean islands as introduced populations. It is a complex containing several cryptic species.

It is found in Cameroon, Central African Republic, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, southwestern Ethiopia, Uganda, and western Kenya. The specific name balfouri honours J.W. Balfour, a missionary in Uganda. Common names Balfour's reed frog and Ethiopia reed frog have been coined for this species, with the latter name referring to the now-synonymized Hyperolius zavattarii. Populations from the western part of the range may be referred to the subspecies Hyperolius balfouri viridistriatus.

Pristimantis angustilineatus is a species of frog in the family Craugastoridae. It is endemic to Colombia and known from the Cordillera Occidental in Chocó, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca Departments, at elevations of 1,700–2,500 m (5,600–8,200 ft) asl. The specific name angustilineatus refers to the narrow white dorsolateral lines and comes from Latin angustus (="narrow") and lineatus.
