Era is an unincorporated community in Cooke County, Texas, United States. It is a small farming town in the southwest portion of the county. Era was founded in 1878, after Judge J.M. Lindsay donated six acres for a school. The town was named for Era Hargrove, the daughter of an early settler. Today, the community of Era has a school, post office, volunteer fire department, two mechanic shops, a welding shop, a hair cutting salon, a feed store and a convenience store with a Subway.
Approximately seven miles west of Era, there is the Liberman Broadcasting Tower Era, one of earth's tallest structures, and as of May 2007 was the tallest structure in Texas. [2] The tower is named for its proximity to Era, though it is much closer to Rosston and Leo. [3]
The Era Independent School District serves area students. Mascot is the Hornets. Sports include football, basketball and track.
The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Era has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. [4]

The city is named after Matthew Baird, the owner and director of the Texas and Pacific Railway. The railway depot is now operated as the visitor center and a transportation museum.

Liberman Broadcasting Tower, Era, is a 2,000-foot-tall guyed mast located at 33°29'05.5" N and 97°24'44.8" W in Cooke County, Texas, United States. It was built in 2006 and is used for emergency communication and commercial radio broadcasting. Currently, it is used for storm tracking communications and primarily serves as the transmitter for KNOR-FM, 93.7 “La Raza,” a Spanish-language music station playing “Norteño” music.
