Eyre is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Playford. It was created on 31 October 2017 by cutting off the northeastern corner of what had been the suburb of Penfield. Its boundaries are Womma, Stebonheath and Petherton Roads on the south, east and north sides. The west follows Andrews Road north from Womma Road, but then extends west to the Northern Expressway.^[1]

Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia, and the fifth-most populous city of Australia. Adelaide is home to 77 percent of the South Australian population, making it the most centralised population of any state in Australia.

The City of Playford is a local government area of South Australia in Adelaide's northern suburbs. The name 'Playford' comes from the recognition of Sir Thomas Playford, who played a part in the development of the area, and was South Australia's premier from 1938-1965. The City covers an area of 345 km² (133 sq mi), and is home to approximately 90,000 residents. Playford is the fastest growing local government area in South Australia. As of 2016 the city motto is: "a great place to live, work and play".

The Northern Expressway, also known as the Fatchen Northern Expressway, is a 23 kilometre long controlled-access highway in Adelaide, South Australia. It travels from Gawler to Port Wakefield Road. The road has been built to four-lane standard and provides a faster route between Adelaide and Gawler, whilst reducing the amount of traffic on Main North Road, which passes through the heart of the northern suburbs and is interspersed with frequent traffic lights. It also allows freight vehicles to avoid residential areas and go straight to Port Wakefield Road and onto the Port River Expressway (A9) to reach the harbour at Port Adelaide.

History

On 31 October 2017, this section was excised from Penfield and the new suburb of Eyre was created on the north side of Womma Road and western side of Stebonheath Road.^[2] The eastern side was dominated by a housing estate which had been marketed as "Eyre at Penfield". The northeastern corner was the site of a local shopping centre to open later in 2017 including a Drake's Foodland.

Penfield is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Playford. The western part is mostly an industrial area wrapped around the northern sides of RAAF Base Edinburgh and south of the Max Fatchen Expressway. It includes an intermodal freight terminal on the Adelaide-Port Augusta railway line operated by SCT Logistics with a large warehouse and distribution centre operated for Treasury Wine Estates.

Foodland is an Australian supermarket brand with 120 locations, primarily in South Australia, but also in the Northern Territory. The stores are independently owned and operated, although several operators own multiple stores, with the largest groups being Drakes Supermarkets, Romeo's Retail Group, Commercial Retail Group and Eudunda Farmers. Drakes Supermarkets own over 40 supermarkets, while Romeo's Retail Group is the second-largest owner, with more than 20 supermarkets branded as Foodland, as well as others branded IGA and SupaIGA.

Elizabeth West was a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Playford. It was established in 1955 as a satellite suburb to the Elizabeth town centre. The northern part of Elizabeth West was combined with Elizabeth Field to create the new suburb of Davoren Park in 1993. The remainder of Elizabeth West was combined with some land on its west removed from Penfield to create the new suburb of Edinburgh North on 27 October 2011.

Whyalla Barson is a suburb in South Australia located on the northern side of the city of Whyalla in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula. It is named after Thomas Leonard Barson, superintendent of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited in Whyalla from 1933 to 1938. The suburb was first established in 2011 with revisions to boundaries occurring both in 2013 and 2014.

Mullaquana is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located immediately adjoining the southern side of the city of Whyalla in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula.
