Penfield Gardens is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Playford. It is in the urban fringe on the Adelaide Plains, with major industries including market gardening and harness racing horse training.

Penfield Gardens extends from the south (left) bank of the Gawler River downstream of Angle Vale to the Max Fatchen Expressway. The suburb was named in 1983, with the boundaries further adjusted in 2011 to avoid suburbs being divided by the Max Fatchen Expressway. [1]

Carclew

The Carclew Primitive Methodist Church was built on what is now Carclew Road in Penfield Gardens in 1850. It was replaced by a newer building which opened on 12 June 1870. Regular services ceased in 1919, however the building and cemetery were maintained by the trustees for many years. The furnishings were sold to the Anglican church at Lobethal. The District Council of Munno Para took over ownership in 1965, which became the City of Playford in 1997. The church was sold in 2003 and is now a private residence. The cemetery remains under control of the City of Playford but is not available for new burials. [2] The land for the church and cemetery were donated by Jonathon Roberts who had named his property Carclew after the area in Cornwall from which he had migrated. [3]

The Northern Expressway, also known as the Fatchen Northern Expressway, is a 23 kilometre long controlled-access highway in Adelaide, South Australia. It travels from Gawler to Port Wakefield Road. The road has been built to four-lane standard and provides a faster route between Adelaide and Gawler, whilst reducing the amount of traffic on the other roads northern suburbs and is interspersed with frequent traffic lights. It also allows freight vehicles to avoid residential areas and go straight to Port Wakefield Road. Since March 2020, the North–South Motorway continues west of Port Wakefield Road and intersects the Port River Expressway (A9) to reach the harbour at Port Adelaide. These are the northernmost two parts of the North–South Corridor.

The North–South Corridor is a series of component motorways travelling through Adelaide, South Australia that will eventually form a continuous link from Old Noarlunga in the outer southern metropolitan Adelaide suburbs through to Gawler in northern metropolitan Adelaide, comprising a distance of 78km. Under South Australia's road route system, the corridor is signed as route M2.

Carclew, North Adelaide

Carclew is a Federation style mansion built in 1897, located in the Adelaide suburb of North Adelaide, overlooking the Adelaide city centre city from Montefiore Hill. The name is now better known as the cultural organisation dedicated to artistic development of young people, now known simply as Carclew, which has been housed in the building since 1971.

Eyre is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Playford. It was created on 31 October 2017 by cutting off the northeastern corner of what had been the suburb of Penfield. Its boundaries are Womma, Stebonheath and Petherton Roads on the south, east and north sides. The west follows Andrews Road north from Womma Road, but then extends west to the Northern Expressway.
