The FAO Super Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic football, based in Odisha, India. In 2018, the inaugural edition of the Super Cup was played. The Super Cup is organised by and named after the Football Association of Odisha (FAO), the official football governing body of Odisha, India. Sunrise Club of Cuttack were the champions of the inaugural edition of the tournament beating the Rising Student's Club.

History

In 2018, the Football Association of Odisha, in a total revamp, introduced the two new leagues to the footballing system of the state; annual knockout football competition in men's domestic football i.e. the FAO Super Cup and the Inter District Football Championship, which will be played among the districts of Odisha. [1]

League format

A three-tier system consisting of Diamond, Gold and Silver leagues; top four teams from the Diamond League, top three teams of Gold League, and the winners of Silver League play-off, would be promoted to the FAO Super cup. A total of eight teams compete in the tournament. In a total revamp of the league, the FAO Football league was converted to second highest level footballing league, as the premier state level football league was introduced by the Football Association of Odisha from 2018. The Odisha football team and Odisha women's football team is administered by the Football Association of Odisha. The organisation was renamed after the Orissa Football Association was dissolved in 2010.

The 2018 Indian Super Cup Final was a football match between East Bengal and Bengaluru, played on 20 April 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The match was a culmination of the 2018 Indian Super Cup, a knockout football tournament in India run by the All India Football Federation. The competition began on 2 October 2018 and concluded with the final on 7 October 2018. The entire tournament took place at one venue i.e. the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The 2022 FAO Super Cup will be the second edition of the FAO Super Cup, the main club knockout football competition of Odisha, India. The competition will start on 11 September 2022 and end on 18 September 2022. The entire tournament is scheduled to take place at one venue i.e. the CRRI Ground in Cuttack. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the Super Cup hasn't been organised since 2018, and hence this edition will only be the second edition of the Super Cup, after its inaugural 2018 edition.

The competition will start on 17 August 2023 and end on 23 August 2023. The entire tournament is scheduled to take place at one venue i.e. the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
