It originates in the Green Swamp, east of Polk City, flowing west, then north, then northwest and finally west again before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico near Yankeetown. The river is 141 miles (227 km) long and has a drainage basin of 1,170 square miles (3,000 km2). It is believed to have been named after the Withlacoochee River in the northern part of the state, near the border with Georgia.

Fivay High School is a public high school located in Pasco County, Florida, located on State Road 52. Opened in 2010 the school was built for 1,870 students from Hudson High School, Ridgewood High School, and River Ridge High School which had been experiencing overcrowding.

Brooksville Subdivision

CSX Transportation's Brooksville Subdivision is a railroad line in the Tampa Bay region of Florida. Today, the line runs from the Clearwater Subdivision in Sulphur Springs, Florida north to a point just north of Brooksville, a distance of 49.1 miles. Historically, the Brooksville Subdivision was owned and operated by CSX predecessor, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. Under Seaboard ownership, the Brooksville Subdivision continued north as far as Waldo, where it intercepted the Seaboard Air Line main line.

Villa City is a former community in Lake County, Florida that is now a ghost town. It was a citrus growing area in the late 19th century with dozens of homes and a post office until it got hit by a hard freeze in February 1895. A historical marker is located in the area commemorating Villa City. There is also a Villa City Road.
