Foster Township is a township in Big Stone County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 123 as of the 2000 census.

Big Stone County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 5,269. Its county seat is Ortonville.

Minnesota is a state in the Upper Midwest and northern regions of the United States. Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd U.S. state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The state has a large number of lakes, and is known by the slogan the "Land of 10,000 Lakes". Its official motto is L'Étoile du Nord.

History

Foster was platted in 1880. It was named for Foster L. Balch.^[2]

United States General Land Office surveyors drafted township plats of Public Lands Surveys to show the distance and bearing between section corners, sometimes including topographic or vegetation information.
