The Elite League, often referred to as GFF Elite League, is the top level of the football system in Guyana. Contested by 10 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation. Top level before GFF Elite League was GFF National Super League .

Contents

The competition was formed as the Stag Elite League in 2015 following a hiatus for the 2014-15 season. Its inaugural season consisted of 8 of the 11 FIFA licensed teams from Guyana. [1] [2] The league expanded to 10 teams for its second season, but four teams pulled out before the season began.

The Guyana national football team, nicknamed the Golden Jaguars, represents Guyana in international football and is controlled by the Guyana Football Federation. The Kenyan Premier League (KPL), officially known as the FKF Premier League, is a professional league for men's football clubs in Kenya. Standing at the top of the Kenyan football league system, the league was formed in 1963 under the Kenya Football Federation but is now controlled by the Football Kenya Federation. It is contested by 18 clubs and operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Kenyan National Super League. Gor Mahia are the current champions having won the 2022–23 season.

The sport of football in the country of Guyana is run by the Guyana Football Federation. Football is the second most popular sport of Guyana, after cricket. The association administers the national football team, as well as the national football league. However, the Guyana National Team has not played a game since November 2012 due to on-going off-field disputes.

The 2010 GFF National Super League was the third season of the National Super League under its current format, and the twentieth reported season of top tier Guyanese football. The champions for the second consecutive year were Alpha United who did not lose a single match during the campaign. As champions, Alpha United, along with league runners-up, Milerock earned a berth into the 2011 CFU Club Championship.

Trayon Denzil Bobb is a Guyanese professional footballer who plays as a left-winger for S.U.1 de Dezembro of the Portuguese Campeonato de Portugal league. He also represents the Guyana national team.

Anthony 'Awo' Joseph Abrams is a Guyanese footballer who plays as a striker for Fruta Conquerors FC in the GFF Elite League. The 2015–16 GFF Elite League was the 15th season of the highest competitive football league in Guyana, and the 1st season of the Elite League. Eight FIFA licensed clubs participated in the inaugural Elite League season. The season was split into two parts. Each half consisted of 14 rounds, with each team playing the other 7 teams twice each. In each round, the top 4 teams advanced to the playoffs. The winners of each half then faced off to determine the overall champion. The two half-season champions also advanced to the 2017 CFU Club Championship.

Monedderlust FC is a Guyanese football club based in Berbice, competing in the GFF Elite League, the top tier of Guyanese football. They competed in the inaugural season of the Elite League in 2015.
