Gables is a suburb of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Gables is 52 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of The Hills Shire. Gables is located in the Hills District on the North West of Sydney.

History

The suburb of Gables was originally the site of a dairy farm owned by Robert Hurrell. This dairy was divided into two parts due to its size and was named Blue Gables and Red Gables. [2] Red Gables Road, which cuts through the middle of the suburb, and The Gables, an ongoing residential development since 2015, were named after the dairy farms. The name of the suburb was subsequently derived from this as well.

Gables was gazetted on 17 July 2020. [3] [4] A large portion of Gables was previously part of the suburb of Box Hill and a smaller portion in the north was part of the suburb of Maraylya.

Education

Santa Sophia Catholic College's permanent campus in Gables began construction in June 2020 and opened for learning on 8 November 2021, ready for Term 1 2022. [5] [6] [7] [8] The school caters Kindergarten to Year 12 students. The school is located at 1 Lakefront Crescent, at the corner of Fontana Parade and Red Gables Road. [5]

Residential areas

The Gables is a residential development within the suburb that is currently being developed by Stockland. [8] It is the biggest master planned community in The Hills District and covers 330 hectares (820 acres). [9] When The Gables was first planned in 2015, it was planned to comprise over 4,000 dwellings, a primary school, two sports fields, a 5.5-hectare (14-acre) town centre and a 4-hectare (9.9-acre) lake central to the development. [10] [2]

Celestino was the original developer of The Gables until March 2020, when Celestino sold the remaining 293 hectares (720 acres) of undeveloped land to Stockland for A$415 million. At the time of the sale, Celestino had already developed 994 dwellings. Stockland planned to continue developing 1,900 dwellings over the remaining life of the project. [9]

Maraylya is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Maraylya is located 43 kilometres (27 mi) north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of The Hills Shire and the City of Hawkesbury. Maraylya is bounded in the north and the east by Cattai Creek. The western part of Maraylya is prone to flooding after heavy rains, particularly from run-off from the Scheyville National Park. The flood waters make their way to Longneck Lagoon, which eventually drains into the Hawkesbury River less than 2 km to the west. Maraylya consists mainly of small-acreage properties used as hobby farms and for keeping horses for recreational purposes. Scheyville National Park adjoins the southern border of Maraylya and is popular for horse trail rides for local residents. There is an arena in the area called the Horseworld Sportsworld Equestrian Stadium.

Box Hill House is a heritage-listed former hunting grounds and farm estate and now residential support home at 10 Terry Road, Box Hill, The Hills Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1819 to 1897 by Samuel Terry and George Terry. It is also known as McCall Garden Colony, Box Hill House in grounds of McCall gardens, McCall Gardens and Box Hill estate. The property is privately owned. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

Tallawong is a suburb of Blacktown in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Tallawong is in north-west Greater Sydney Area in the local government area of Blacktown. It is named after the metro station located within its boundaries, which opened in May 2019. Tallawong is a Darug word meaning apple gum tree.
