Grupo Desportivo Gaviões de Hortelã (Capeverdean Crioulos of ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Grupu Disportibu Gabiõis di Hortelan) is a football club that plays in the Sal Island League in Cape Verde and currently plays in the Sal Premier Division. It is based in the subdivision of Hortelã located in the north of Espargos, capital of the island of Sal, in an area where it saw recent housing developments in almost all areas. The club plays at Estádio Marcelo Leitão to their south. The level is a beginner club.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

The Sal Premier Division is a regional championship played in Sal Island, Cape Verde. The winner of the championship plays in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season. The competition are organized by the Sal Regional Football Association. The Premier Divisions contains eight clubs. In title history, Académico do Aeroporto has the most number of titles numbering 14, and is ranked fifth in the most number of championship titles of any of the island leagues in Cape Verde. The champion promotes into the Cape Verdean Football Championships each season while the last placed club relegates into the second division the following season.

Its logo is like a seal and is colored blue, it features an eagle, its full name of the club is on top and the neighborhood based in is on the bottom.

History

Gaviões are one of the seven newest clubs in the Sal Island League, the club name is Portuguese meaning seagull. In mid-2014, along with the other five the club became registered and played their first match in the regional Opening Tournament later in the year and later the regional Second Division in 2015. During that season, the highest scoring match was in the 9th round where they defeated Chã de Matias 0-6 and became their highest scoring match for a season Gaviões lost their first entry into the Premier Division after finishing outside the promotional zone with 3rd place behind Florença de Santa Maria and ASGUI. A year later, Gaviões got their success and finished first place in the Second Division and became the third and recent club to enter the Premier Division and ninth participant at the second tier competitions. Also that season, they defeated Chã de Matias 0-7 on April 29, 2016 and became the club's highest scoring matc, also they won all four matches over that club.

Gaviões spend their first ever Premier Division season for the 2016-17 season and their third overall. Their first match was with Juventude on January 15. Weeks later, they found out in that match that Gaviões fielded and ineligible player, the result was originally a four goal draw, they were against 3-0. Two more losses was followed first to Palmeira then to Académico do Aeroporto. Gaviões got their first Premier Division win defeating Académica do Sal 1-0 in February. A loss, then a scoreless draw with Verdun Pedra de Lume was followed before their second win was made defeating Santa Maria 0-2 in the second round. No further wins were made from April 15, two straight draws were made first with Florença de Santa Maria then with Verdun Pedra de Lume, each with a goal each. Their final match of the season was with Santa Maria, instead of another win, they suffered a near gigantic loss losing 1-10 in that match and became the club's worst and left conceding the most goals in the region, the club finished 7th and got their chance to become the eighth club in the highest regional competition to compete their second season, also they had 9 points and scored 9 goals, second least ahead of Verdun Pedra de Lume. Its overall win to loss ratio was 36.67%

In the following season, they competed for the third time with ASGUI who won their only Second Division secondary title. They started with a scoreless draw with Académica Sal before they suffered three straight losses. They made a win, currently their recent over ASGUI on January 13. Their recent loss, a huge 2-5 loss to Florença Sta. Maria and is placed in the relegation zone with 5 points, a possible chance next season. They had 7 goals scored and 28 conceded, second worst on the island, it was second worst at round 12. At the 13th round, the continuation of their losses, a huger 0-6 loss to Santa Maria and the club will possibly relegate next season with one match to go, their next with Académico do Aeroporto, they made an unexpected victory with the score 1-2 and finished with 8 points, Gaviões scored fewer goals than ASGUI (also had 8 points) numbering 9, the club finished last and that was it in participation in the Premier Division. Their nine goals were shared with Académica Sal and were the least in Sal. On the opposites, Gaviões had 34 goals conceded, again the worst on the island and shared ASGUI's. Gaviões will compete in the Second Division next season. Their win to loss ratio now dropped to around 29% of the overall matches win. But overall Os Gaviões has become the island's eighth best club.

Gaviões also competed four times in the opening tournaments and regional cup competitions.

The club plays at Estádio Marcelo Leitão, a multi-use stadium in Espargos, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000. The stadium has seat rows in the east side and is east-southeast of the city center and Monte Curral. The stadium is home to the two best football clubs on the island, the other being Académica do Sal, other clubs based in Espargos includes Juventude which is based in Morro Curral and the stadium is being located inside the neighborhood. Other clubs based in Espargos but a neighborhood includes the newly established clubs of GDRC Pretória and Chã de Matias. Clubs playing the stadium but based on other parts of the island include Santa Maria, Florença de Santa Maria, SC Verdun Pedra de Lume, Palmeira de Santa Maria and ASGUI.
