Giovanni Toti (born 28 December 2000) is an Italian badminton player from Chiari. [1] He represented Italy in men's singles at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Toti also won a bronze medal in men's doubles at the 2022 Mediterranean Games.

Career

In 2017, he won the Mauritius International tournament in the men's doubles event. [2] In April 2018, he reached the finals of both men's singles and doubles at the Argentina International. In October 2018, he competed in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and won a gold medal in the mixed team relays. [3] In boys' singles, he won against Julien Carraggi 17–21, 21–17, 21–12 but was eliminated in the group stage after losing the next two matches to Tomás Toledano and Li Shifeng.

In 2021, he was a runner-up at the Slovenia Future Series. He also partnered with Fabio Caponio and achieved runner-up position at the Mexican International and the El Salvador International. [4] In 2022, Toti and Caponio competed in the 2022 Mediterranean Games and won the bronze medal in the men's doubles event. [5] He also won the Guatemala International in 2022, beating Uriel Canjura of El Salvador in the final. [6] In 2023, he won the Venezuela International. [7]

In 2023, he competed in the 2023 European Games men's singles event. He advanced to the knockout stages after defeating Dominik Kwinta of Poland and Teodor Ioan Cioroboiu of Romania to finish second in the group. In the round of 16, he lost to Felix Burestedt of Sweden. [8]

In 2024, he qualified for the men's singles event at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Drawn to Group A with Sören Opti of Suriname and world number 1 Shi Yuqi of China, he faced Opti in the opening match and won the first game 21–8. In the second game, while leading 4–1 up, his opponent had to retire due to injury. Toti became the first Italian to win a match in badminton at the Olympics. [9] In the next match, he lost to Shi Yuqi 21–9, 21–10 and was eliminated in the group stage.

Oliveira placed 27th in the world junior ranking and went on to compete at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. He won his first senior international title at the 2014 Puerto Rico International in the men's singles event. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and became the first Brazil's male Olympic badminton player. He clinched three gold medals at the 2018 South American Games in the men's singles, doubles, and team event. Coelho won a gold medal in the men's singles at the 2019 Lima Pan American Games.

Sören Hans Brad Opti is a badminton player from Suriname. He is a two time Olympian, respresenting Suriname at the 2016 Rio Olympics and at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He was also selected to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but had to stay home due to a positive Covid-test. During the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympics, Opti was the flagbearer for Suriname. Opti participated in the 2014 and 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Shi Yuqi is a Chinese badminton player who is currently the world number one in the men's singles. Shi won his first Superseries title in the 2016 French Open. At the 2017 All England Open, he defeated 6-time champion Lin Dan to reach the final, and repeated the same feat again at the 2018 All England Open, where he outclassed Lin Dan in the tournament final. He also won a silver medal at the 2018 World Championships.

Katharina Fink is an Italian badminton player affiliated with SSV Bozen. She won the National Championships title in 2018. Fink clinched her first senior international title at the 2019 South Africa International in the women's doubles event partnered with Yasmine Hamza. Together with Hamza, they won the silver medal at the 2022 Mediterranean Games.

Yasmine Hamza is an Italian badminton player affiliated with SSVBozen. She won the National Championships title in 2019 and 2021. Hamza clinched her first senior international title at the 2019 South Africa International in the women's doubles event partnered with Katharina Fink. Together with Fink, they won the silver medal at the 2022 Mediterranean Games.

Collins Valentine Filimon is a Romanian-born badminton player who is currently representing Austria. He plays for the ASKÖ Traun badminton club. He represented Austria in badminton at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
