Goeppertia majestica (syn. Calathea majestica), the majestic prayer plant, is a species of flowering plant in the family Marantaceae . It is native to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, and northern Brazil, [2] and has been introduced to Venezuela. [1]

In the Amazon, the leaves of G. majestica (referred to as Calathea gigas) are traditionally used for lining baskets for holding fish, and as thatch. [3]

As an ornamental, G. majestica has attractive foliage and can be grown both indoors and in outdoor gardens. [4] [5] A large member of its genus, it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. [6]
