The Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Ensemble Cast was one of the annual Gotham Independent Film Awards awarded between 2005 and 2012. The award was called Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Ensemble Performance between 2008 and 2012.

Contents

While this competitive award was retired in 2012, a non-competitive special award honoring one film's ensemble has been given at the Gotham Awards almost every year since 2014. From 2014 to 2018, it was presented as the Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Performance, and since 2020, it has been presented under the name Ensemble Tribute.

The Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award is one of the annual Gotham Independent Film Awards and honors feature film directorial debuts. Named after Bingham Ray since 2013, the breakthrough director award was first given in 1991 as the Open Palm Award, with Jennie Livingston being the first recipient of the award, for her work in Paris Is Burning. From 1991 to 1996 only the winner was announced, since 1997, a set of 5 to 6 nominees is presented annually.

Danielle Deadwyler is an American actress. She began her career appearing on Atlanta stage, including in the 2009 production of For Colored Girls, and made her screen debut in the 2012 drama film A Cross to Bear. Deadwyler appeared in the primetime soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots (2015–2017), the drama series P-Valley (2020), and the miniseries Station Eleven (2021–2022) and From Scratch (2022).

Collins received her tribute award posthumously.

The 32nd Annual Gotham Awards, presented by The Gotham Film & Media Institute, were held on November 28, 2022. The nominees were announced on October 25, 2022, by Angelica Ross and Jeffrey Sharp. Actors Adam Sandler and Michelle Williams, filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood, film executives Jason Cassidy and Peter Kujawski, entrepreneur Don Katz, and the cast of Fire Island all received tribute awards. Additionally, actor and filmmaker Sidney Poitier was posthumously recognized with the Icon Tribute award.

The Gotham Independent Film Audience Award was one of the annual Gotham Independent Film Awards awarded between 2010 and 2020. The winner was determined via an online vote, in earlier years by the independent film community and film fans (2010–2013), and later by members of the Independent Filmmaker Project (2014–2020).
