The 32nd Annual Gotham Awards, presented by The Gotham Film & Media Institute, were held on November 28, 2022. [1] [2] [3] The nominees were announced on October 25, 2022, by Angelica Ross and Jeffrey Sharp. [4] [5] [6] Actors Adam Sandler and Michelle Williams, filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood, film executives Jason Cassidy and Peter Kujawski, entrepreneur Don Katz, and the cast of Fire Island all received tribute awards. [7] [8] [9] Additionally, actor and filmmaker Sidney Poitier was posthumously recognized with the Icon Tribute award. [10]

Gina Maria Prince-Bythewood is an American film director and screenwriter. She began her career as a writer for multiple television shows in the 1990s, including the anthology series CBS Schoolbreak Special, for which she was nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards. Prince-Bythewood made her feature film directorial debut with Love & Basketball (2000), for which she received an Independent Spirit Award.

The Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award is one of the annual Gotham Independent Film Awards and honors feature film directorial debuts. Named after Bingham Ray since 2013, the breakthrough director award was first given in 1991 as the Open Palm Award, with Jennie Livingston being the first recipient of the award, for her work in Paris Is Burning. From 1991 to 1996 only the winner was announced, since 1997, a set of 5 to 6 nominees is presented annually.

The Old Guard is a 2020 American superhero film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka, based on his comic book of the same name. It stars Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and follows a team of immortal mercenaries on a revenge mission.

<i>The Woman King</i> 2022 film by Gina Prince-Bythewood

The Woman King is a 2022 American historical action-adventure film about the Agojie, the all-female warrior unit that protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th to 19th centuries. Set in the 1820s, the film stars Viola Davis as a general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies. It is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Dana Stevens, based on a story she wrote with Maria Bello. The film also stars Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and John Boyega.

The 31st Annual Gotham Awards, presented by the Gotham Film & Media Institute, were held on November 29, 2021. The nominees were announced on October 21, 2021. Actors Peter Dinklage and Kristen Stewart, director Jane Campion, film executive Eamonn Bowles, playwright Kathleen Collins, and the cast of The Harder They Fall all received tribute awards. Collins received her tribute award posthumously.

The Gotham TV Award for Breakthrough Nonfiction Series is one of the annual Gotham TV Awards and was first awarded in 2021. Originally given out at the main Gotham Awards, it was announced in April 2024 that the award would be presented as part of the 1st Gotham TV Awards, effectively reintroducing it as one of the Gotham TV Awards after the category had not been presented at the previous main Gotham Awards ceremony.
