The 31st Annual Gotham Awards, presented by the Gotham Film & Media Institute (previously Independent Filmmaker Project), were held on November 29, 2021. [1] [2] [3] [4] The nominees were announced on October 21, 2021. [5] [6] Actors Peter Dinklage and Kristen Stewart, director Jane Campion, film executive Eamonn Bowles, playwright Kathleen Collins, and the cast of The Harder They Fall all received tribute awards. Ceremony information

Starting with this ceremony, the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress were replaced by two new, gender neutral award categories: Outstanding Lead Performance and Outstanding Supporting Performance. Furthermore, a gender neutral award category for acting in a series, called Outstanding Performance in a New Series, was added. These three new categories each have up to ten nominees instead of the usual five. In addition to these changes to the acting categories, an award for Breakthrough Nonfiction Series was created for this ceremony. [12] [13]

Peter Hayden Dinklage is an American actor. For portraying Tyrion Lannister on the HBO television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019), he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series a record four times. The Gotham TV Award for Breakthrough Nonfiction Series is one of the annual Gotham TV Awards and was first awarded in 2021. Originally given out at the main Gotham Awards, it was announced in April 2024 that the award would be presented as part of the 1st Gotham TV Awards, effectively reintroducing it as one of the Gotham TV Awards after the category had not been presented at the previous main Gotham Awards ceremony.
