The Great Indonesia Coalition (Indonesian : Koalisi Indonesia Hebat, KIH, later called the Coalition of Cooperation of Government Supporting Parties, Indonesian : Koalisi Kerjasama Partai Pendukung Pemerintah, (KP3)) was a coalition of political parties in Indonesia that supported Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla in the 2014 Indonesian presidential election. This coalition consists of PDI-P, PKB, NasDem Party, Hanura Party, and PKP Indonesia. The coalition was declared during the Jokowi-JK Declaration event on May 19 2014 at the Djoeang Building, Jakarta. The dynamics of politics in Indonesia have made the coalition stronger. It is recorded that in October 2014, the United Development Party joined and in September 2015, the National Mandate Party also joined. Finally, in January 2016, Golkar officially joined and on May 17 2016, declared its withdrawal from the Red-White Coalition. [4]

Power in parliament

The Great Indonesia Coalition has 208 (37.14%) seats in the Indonesian House of Representatives, consisting of 109 (18.95%) seats from the PDI-P, 36 (6.42%) seats from the NasDem Party, 47 (8.39%) seats from the PKB and 16 (2.9%) seats from the Hanura Party, while the PKP Indonesia did not get a single seat in the DPR due to insufficient threshold (the requirement for getting a DPR seat is a minimum of 3.5% national votes). The coalition is a very minority in the DPR and all leaders in the DPR and MPR are all controlled by the Red-White Coalition. After the 2014 presidential election, the Great Indonesia Coalition gained new supporters, namely the United Development Party in parliament and government in October 2014, the National Mandate Party in September 2015 and the Golkar Party in January 2016. With the joining of PPP, PAN and Golkar Party, the strength of the Great Indonesia Coalition turned into a majority in the DPR, namely 386 (68.93%) seats, compared to the Red-White Coalition which had 113 (20.17%) seats and the Democratic Party which had 61 (10.89%) seats. Since November 17 2015, KIH has officially changed its name to Coalition of Cooperation of Government Supporting Parties (KP3) which aims to accommodate political parties that have just joined the coalition. The change was inaugurated by the Coordinator of the Great Indonesia Coalition who is also the General Chairperson of PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri. The General Chairperson of Hanura Party Wiranto gave the reason for the name change. According to him, KIH and KMP were formed during the presidential election to support one of the presidential candidates. Currently, both terms are considered irrelevant.

Government coalition

In connection with the election of Jokowi-JK as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2014-2019 period, the Great Indonesia Coalition has become a coalition of political parties supporting the government. The number of ministerial seats in the Working Cabinet filled by political parties that are members of the Great Indonesia Coalition is 16 seats, consisting of 5 ministers from the PDI-P, 2 ministers from the Golkar Party, 2 ministers from the NasDem Party, 4 ministers from the PKB, 1 minister from the PAN, 1 minister from the Hanura Party, and 1 minister from the PPP. President Joko Widodo has stipulated that these ministers must relinquish their positions in the political parties they are members of. In addition, the Jokowi-JK government also gave 1 seat to PAN, namely as chairman of the KEIN which is currently held by Soetrisno Bachir.
