Greater Manchester bus route 11 is a bus route runs between Stockport Interchange and Altrincham Interchange. It is operated by Stagecoach Manchester. It has a sister route 368 operating between Stockport Interchange and Wythenshawe Interchange or Wythenshawe Hospital or Manchester Airport, sharing the same route between Stockport and Cheadle.

History

The history of the 11 can be traced back to 1974. Before the deregulation of bus services in the UK, Greater Manchester's bus routes were operated by publicly owned companies, primarily the SELNEC (South East Lancashire North East Cheshire) Passenger Transport Executive, which became Greater Manchester Transport (GMT) in 1974. Route 11 was part of this network and served key parts of Manchester, connecting suburban areas with the city center.^{[ citation needed ]}

The original Route 11 was a cross-city service, linking Stockport in the southeast with Pendlebury, near Swinton, in the northwest. This route passed through Manchester city center, providing a crucial connection across the city.^{[ citation needed ]}

In 1986, the bus industry in the UK was deregulated, which meant that private companies could operate bus services under competition with public operators. ^[2]

This led to a period of significant change for bus routes, including Route 11.^{[ citation needed ]}

Following deregulation, the original route 11 was operated by different companies. ^[3] By the late 1980s and early 1990s, GM Buses, the successor to Greater Manchester Transport, ran Route 11.

As competition increased, parts of the original Route 11 were split from the original route and renumbered to 368 (later 330, the original number were reused by a whole new route operating between Stockport Interchange and Wythenshawe Interchange or Manchester Airport, making it the sister route of the 11.) for the part serving Ashton-under-Lyne.^{[ citation needed ]}

In February 1996, GM South Buses was bought by Stagecoach and rebranded as Stagecoach Manchester, becoming the current operator of the route. ^[4]
