The Greendale Mall was an enclosed shopping mall located near the intersection of Interstates 290 and 190 in Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. The anchors were Best Buy, Big Lots, DSW, and a combination of TJ Maxx and HomeGoods.
The mall first opened in 1987, anchored by Lechmere and Marshalls stores. [1] [2] TJ Maxx 'N More was later added in the late 1990s and it later became a TJ Maxx and HomeGoods combo store. Lechmere closed in 1997 and later became Best Buy. Marshalls closed in 2007 and became Big Lots in 2010. [3]
Simon Property Group purchased the mall in 1999. The company stopped paying the debt on the mall in October 2015 and the noteholder took ownership of the Mall. [4] At the time of the takeover by the note holder, the mall was performing very poorly. In November 2015, the mall was appraised at $14.7 million but had a loan value of $45 million. [4]
In June 2016, the mall was sold at auction to Chicago law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP for $11.8 million, the mortgage holder of the property, after no other bids were received. [5] In September 2016, Burlington-based KeyPoint Partners, the company representing the new owners and managing the building, announced that Worcester's only enclosed shopping mall would remain open. On December 19, 2018, it was announced that Big Lots would be closing in January 2019. [7]
On September 9, 2019, it was announced that Best Buy would also be closing in November 2019. [8]
On December 16, 2019 a Boston developer bought the rundown Greendale Mall in Worcester and the new owner plans to demolish the 33-year-old shopping center and replace it with a mix of retail, apartments, and office space. [9] Plans were later changed and the mall will now be demolished and replaced with an Amazon distribution center. The mall closed permanently in 2020. [10]
On October 23, 2020, it was announced that TJ Maxx/HomeGoods would be relocating to Lincoln Plaza on April 24, 2021 leaving the mall entirely vacant and officially closed for good. It was demolished in Summer 2021. [11] [12]
Century III Mall was a large enclosed shopping mall located along Route 51 in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, about 10 miles southeast of downtown Pittsburgh. It operated from October 1979 until its closure in February 2019. Demolition began on March 26, 2024, and is expected to finish sometime in 2026 – 7 years after its closure.
The Silver City Galleria was an enclosed, two-level, super-regional mall located off Route 24 and Route 140 in Taunton, Massachusetts, United States. It covered a leasable area of over 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m2), and served multiple cities and towns in the region. It was demolished in 2021.
Huntington Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in the village of Barboursville in Cabell County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Currently the largest mall in West Virginia, it opened on 3 February 1981 and features more than 150 retailers. Anchor stores include Dick's Sporting Goods, JCPenney, Macy's, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and a Cinemark theater. Other major tenants include Books-A-Million, Old Navy and a trade school known as Woody Williams Center for Advanced Learning and Careers which is under construction. The mall is owned by Cafaro Company of Youngstown, Ohio.
CambridgeSide is an enclosed shopping mall in Cambridge, Massachusetts that opened in 1990. As of 2023, the mall is anchored by TJ Maxx. Previous anchors include department stores Filene's, Lechmere, Macy's, Macy's Home and Children's, Best Buy and Sears.
Southridge Mall is a regional shopping mall located in the Milwaukee County suburbs of Greendale and Greenfield, Wisconsin. At 1,177,783 square feet it is Wisconsin's second largest mall behind Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, tied with Fox River Mall in Appleton. The mall's anchor stores are TJ Maxx, Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Macy's, JCPenney, and Round 1 Entertainment. There are 2 vacant anchor stores that were once Boston Store and Kohl's. Sears closed in September 2017, Kohl's relocated to a mixed use development on September 29, 2018, and Boston Store closed in Summer 2018 as parent company Bon-Ton went out of business. The former Sears was replaced by Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Round 1 Entertainment, and TJ Maxx.

The Fashion Center is a shopping center located in Paramus, New Jersey. It opened in 1967 as a traditional indoor shopping mall. The mall slowly underwent a "de-malling" process over a period of several years prior to 2009, which resulted in the former interior portion of the mall gradually taken over by other stores and eventually sealed off, with each store inside the center having its own outside entrances.
Northland Center was an enclosed shopping mall on an approximately 159-acre (64 ha) site located near the intersection of M-10 and Greenfield Road in Southfield, Michigan, an inner-ring suburb of Detroit, Michigan, United States. Construction began in 1952 and the mall opened on March 22, 1954. Northland was a milestone for regional shopping centers in the United States. Designed by Victor Gruen, the mall initially included a four-level Hudson's with a ring of stores surrounding it. As originally built, it was an open air pedestrian mall with arrayed structures. The mall was enclosed in 1975 and expanded several times in its history. Additions included five other department store anchors: J. C. Penney in 1975, MainStreet in 1985, and TJ Maxx, Target, and Montgomery Ward in the 1990s. Managed by Spinoso Real Estate Group, Northland Center featured approximately 100 stores. Macy's, the last anchor, closed on March 22, 2015, exactly 61 years to the date of the mall's opening. The mall was partially demolished in September 2021, and is currently being redeveloped as Northland City Center.

Deerbrook Mall is a shopping mall in Deerfield, Illinois. Located on 47.45 acres, its anchor stores are Marshalls, The Dump Furniture Outlet, Office Depot, Hobby Lobby, Jewel Osco, and Floor & Decor. Former anchors include Best Buy, Bally Total Fitness, Old Country Buffet, Blockbuster Video, GameStop, OfficeMax, Sports Authority, TJ Maxx, Venture, Wonder, The Great Indoors, Art Van Furniture and Bed Bath & Beyond. The mall is located on Waukegan Road, north of the Edens Spur and south of Lake Cook Road. McFarland Mall was a regional 497,000-square-foot (46,200 m2) L-shaped shopping mall on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Located near the interchange of Interstate 20/59 with McFarland Boulevard, it was in the southern section of the city. Opening on February 19, 1969, the mall replaced Woods Square Shopping Center and Leland Shopping Center as the main commercial retail center in the Tuscaloosa area. Brandon Crawford and Associates of Birmingham was the architect for the mall. General contractor for the project was N.C. Morgan Construction Company of Tuscaloosa. McGiffert and Associates of Tuscaloosa provided the engineering services for the mall.
Richland Town Center is a power center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located on U.S. Route 219 at Elton Road and Theatre Drive. The center opened in 2004 on the site of the former Richland Mall. Existing from 1974 to 1998, Richland Mall was an enclosed shopping mall whose anchor stores were Sears, Kmart, and Penn Traffic; Sears later became Hills and then Ames, while Penn Traffic later became Hess's and then The Bon-Ton. Richland Mall was shuttered in 1998 after losing business to The Johnstown Galleria which opened in 1992. Richland Mall was then torn down and redeveloped as a strip mall, which features Walmart, TJ Maxx/HomeGoods, Best Buy, and Ulta as its anchor stores.
