SouthCoast Marketplace is a power center in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States, at the intersection of Route 24 and Route 81. The center opened in 2017 and replaced the New Harbour Mall, an enclosed shopping mall that was located at the site from 1971 to 2016.

New Harbour Mall was noted for having once been the only shopping center in the United States to feature rival department store chains Kmart and Walmart as its anchor stores until 2013. [2] [3] The mall closed its doors on Jan 2, 2016 to undergo a $50 million renovation by the CEA Group, and was demolished and replaced by SouthCoast Marketplace. [4]

History

Harbour Mall opened in 1971 with discounters Bradlees and Grant City (the discount division of W.T. Grant) as its anchor stores, [5] the latter of which was converted to Kmart following the 1976 closure of the Grant City chain. Except for the addition of a movie theater in 1984, Harbour Mall remained largely unchanged until a 1993 renovation which added skylights, new entrance canopies, and re-designing of the common mall areas. The mall's movie theaters closed in September 2007. [7] [8]

In its final years, the New Harbour Mall was largely empty except for its anchor stores. [9] In 2015, a reporter for the Fall River's Herald News described the mall's interior as "Dark, depressing and almost eerie, with most of its store spaces shuttered and empty." [9] Among the few interior stores left in the mall at that time were Payless ShoeSource and Rainbow, with other previous tenants such as GNC and RadioShack having already closed their locations in the mall after Walmart relocated to a new, larger store elsewhere in Fall River in 2013. [9] The interior of the mall was closed on January 2, 2016. [10] Kmart, the last remaining anchor tenant, closed its store in the mall in May 2016. [11]

Following its conversion from the New Harbour Mall to SouthCoast Marketplace, the property is now a power center with no indoor mall sections. [12] [13] The anchor tenants of the plaza, according to the official website, are Market Basket, T.J. Maxx, and Picture Show Theaters. All of which opened in October 2017. [14] Other tenants include PetSmart, Staples, Old Navy, Ulta Beauty, Supercuts, Five Below, Qdoba, Five Guys, Starbucks, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, and Jersey Mike's Subs. [15] [16]

Camp Landing Entertainment District is an enclosed shopping mall located outside the city of Ashland, Kentucky, United States, in Cannonsburg. Opened in 1988 as Cedar Knoll Galleria, the mall struggled to keep tenants for several years, eventually becoming a dead mall. Starting in 2005, the mall was renamed Kyova Mall and redevelopment began on the property. Customer traffic had increased, until further store closings, including two anchor tenants, Sears and Elder-Beerman, and the COVID-19 pandemic forced the mall to close. On July 16, 2021, it was announced that the mall was sold by Eggleston Associates to Jason Camp, Glockner Family, and Boyd County and that a major redevelopment plan would start immediately, renaming the area to Camp Landing Entertainment District. As of 2023, current anchors include the Sandy's Racing & Gaming casino, indoor amusement center Malibu Jack's, The Cinema at Camp Landing, and Rural King, with other major tenants including restaurants Smokin' J's, Backyard Pizza, Tap That Sports, and Burger King.

Midland Commons is an outdoor power center in Warwick, Rhode Island. It previously existed as a two-story, enclosed shopping mall. The property opened as the Midland Mall in October 1967; for several years, it co-existed with the nearby Warwick Mall that opened in 1970. The mall was renamed the Rhode Island Mall in March 1985, and experienced rapid decline as tenants relocated to the Warwick Mall in the 1990s. It was considered a dead mall by the 2000s, and the interior of the mall was closed permanently in April 2011. The property was sold in 2012 and has been under redevelopment into its current configuration as a power center since 2016.

Livonia Marketplace is an open-air shopping mall in the Detroit suburb of Livonia, Michigan. Opened in 2010, the center is anchored by Kohl's and Walmart. It occupies the site of the former Livonia Mall, which was an enclosed mall built in 1964. Livonia Mall lost the majority of its tenants in the 2000s, including its previous anchor stores of Crowley's, Sears, Mervyns, and Children's Palace. The mall was closed in May 2008, with only the Sears remaining from the original property. Sears closed in April 2020.

Inland Center is a regional shopping mall owned and operated by Macerich, located in San Bernardino, California along the southwest border adjacent to Interstate 215 and the city of Colton. The mall is within one mile of three bordering cities on the southern end of San Bernardino. Inland Center is a single-level mall anchored by, JCPenney, Forever 21 and Macy's, plus 110 specialty shops and services.

Somersville Towne Center is a regional shopping mall located in Antioch, California. Previously named County East Mall until 2004, the 501,259 square feet (46,570 m2) mall is managed by Urban Retail Properties. Originally opened in 1966, it is strategically positioned in one of the fastest growing areas of the San Francisco Bay Area, east Contra Costa County. Along with high population growth, east Contra Costa County is also experiencing sizable household income increases.

River Roads Mall, also known as River Roads Shopping Center, was an enclosed shopping mall located in the city of Jennings, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Opened in 1962 as one of the nation's first shopping malls, it featured J. C. Penney, F. W. Woolworth Company, Kroger, and Stix, Baer & Fuller as its anchor stores. The mall was expanded in 1972 with a new location of J. C. Penney, but began losing major stores in the early 1980s. J. C. Penney closed in 1983, but was soon reopened as an outlet store, while Stix, Baer & Fuller was sold to Dillard's in 1984 and closed only two years later. Tenancy continued to decline throughout the 1990s, culminating in the closure of the J. C. Penney outlet and mall proper in 1995, although the abandoned structure was not demolished until 2006.

Swansea Mall was a regional shopping mall located in Swansea, Massachusetts. It served the Southeastern Massachusetts area. Located off Exit 3 of I-195, the building is situated at the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and Massachusetts Route 118, on Swansea Mall Drive. It had three out-parcel buildings: a Walmart building behind the mall, a former Toys "R" Us, a shared PriceRite and Dollar Tree. The Swansea Crossings shopping plaza is across the street, and contains a Big Lots and a Tractor Supply Company. The mall closed permanently on March 31, 2019. It was purchased by Anagnost Companies in May 2019 at auction.

Oviedo Mall is a single-story indoor shopping mall, with movie theater, located in Oviedo, Florida, a northeastern suburb of Orlando, Florida. The mall is owned and managed by International Growth Properties. Its only current anchor store is Dillard's, although there are two empty spaces that formerly housed Macy’s and Sears. Other major tenants are Barnes & Noble, a Paul Mitchell cosmetology school, and a Regal Cinemas movie theater.

Northpark Mall is a super regional mall located in Joplin, Missouri. The mall opened in 1972 with 600,000 square feet, and featured 60 stores, restaurants, and other services. Today, the Northpark mall is 1,080,000 square feet, and features more than 100 inline tenants including a food court. Northpark Mall is the largest mall in the Joplin region and serves a trade area of nearly 500,000 people. Freeman hospital added a soft play area in the Macy's women's court in the summer of 2014. The mall was also the temporary home of the 11th and 12th grades of Joplin High School until August 2014, when the new high school was completed. Northpark Mall is managed by CBL & Associates Properties. The anchor stores are Vintage Stock, TJ Maxx, H&M, JCPenney, and Dunham's Sports. There are three vacant anchor stores that were once two Macy's stores and Sears.

Santa Maria Town Center is an indoor shopping center located in Santa Maria, California. It is located on the junctions of Routes 135 (Broadway) and 166, and Cook Street and Miller Street. Anchored by Macy's and Edwards Theatres, Santa Maria Town Center is the only enclosed shopping center in Santa Barbara County, and is the largest in the Central Coast, totaling about 600,000 square feet (56,000 m2) in area. It is home to a mix of 69 stores and eateries totaling approximately 25 acres (10 ha) of retail space, and features national retailers like Kay Jewelers, Bath & Body Works, Foot Locker, and GNC. The Town Center also features two three-level parking garages with 3,315 total parking spaces.

The Apple Blossom Mall is a 473,672 square feet (44,006 m2) shopping mall that was built in 1982 on the south side of Winchester, Virginia. It has 83 stores, including anchor stores of Belk, AMC Classic, and JCPenney. The mall's single vacant anchor space was once occupied by Sears. The shopping mall was acquired by Simon Property Group in 1999. It is now managed and 49.1% owned by Simon Property Group.

The Shops at Billerica is a strip mall and former enclosed shopping mall located in Billerica, Massachusetts. It was built as part of a series of malls including the Woburn Mall, and the Mystic Mall. Anchor stores include Burlington and Big Lots. The property is currently going under a massive redevelopment, although the timeline for completion is unknown.
