Alain Connes is a French mathematician, and a theoretical physicist, known for his contributions to the study of operator algebras and noncommutative geometry. He is a professor at the Collège de France, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, Ohio State University and Vanderbilt University. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1982.

Bernt Karsten Øksendal is a Norwegian mathematician. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Oslo, working under Otte Hustad. He obtained his PhD from University of California, Los Angeles in 1971; his thesis was titled Peak Sets and Interpolation Sets for Some Algebras of Analytic Functions and was supervised by Theodore Gamelin. In 1991, he was appointed as a professor at the University of Oslo. In 1992, he was appointed as an adjunct professor at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, Bergen, Norway.

Trond Helge Torsvik is a Norwegian professor of geophysics at the University of Oslo. He directs the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics. In 2015 Torsvik received the Leopold von Buch award for his outstanding contributions to the understanding of geodynamics. The prize is awarded by the German Geological Society. In 2016 he also received the Arthur Holmes Medal & Honorary Membership from the European Geosciences Union.
