Hemipneustes is an extinct genus of sea urchins belonging to the family Holasteridae.
These semi-infaunal detritivores lived during the Upper Cretaceous period, from 70.6 to 66.043 million years ago. Fossils of this genus have been found in the sediments of Netherlands, Belgium, Bulgaria, India, Iran, Oman and Spain. [1]
Hemipneustes is a quite large sea urchin with a high-domed profile and a well-defined anterior sulcus. [2]
Echinus is a genus of sea urchins. Sea urchins are echinoderms that are typically spherical or flattened with a covering of spine-like structures. Sea urchins tend to be important members of their ecosystems by grazing on other organisms and stabilizing populations. In addition to this, sea urchins play a large role in different economies globally as the urchin themselves and their roe are sold for consumption. The same is true for the species within the genus Echinus.
Cassiduloida is an order of sea urchins. The group was extremely diverse with many families and species during the Mesozoic, but today, only seven extant species remain.
Étienne Alexandre Arnould Locard, usually known as Arnould Locard, was a French naturalist, malacologist and geologist. His name can be abbreviated/spelled as Arnoul at plates, for example Crosse (1890).
Cidaridae is a family of sea urchins in the order Cidaroida.
Henri Émile Sauvage was a French paleontologist, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. He was a leading expert on Mesozoic fish and reptiles.
Holasteroida is an order of irregular sea urchins.
Diplocidaris is an extinct genus of sea urchins belonging to the family Diplocidaridae. The type species of this genus is Cidaris gigantea Agassiz, 1840.
Diplocidaridae is an extinct family of sea urchins.
Prosostoma is an extinct genus of sea urchins belonging to the family Asterostomatidae.
Irregularia is an extant infraclass of sea urchins that first appeared in the Lower Jurassic.
The Neognathostomata are a superorder of sea urchins.
Hemicidaridae is a family of extinct sea urchins characterized by large, massive, club-shaped spines.
Gustave Honoré Cotteau was a French judge, naturalist and paleontologist.
Hemipneustidae is an extinct family of sea urchins.
Victor-Auguste Gauthier was a French school teacher and amateur palaeontologist. He specialized in the study of fossilized sea urchins, contributing meticulous descriptions of many fossils found in southern France, Algeria, Tunisia and Persia.
Alphonse Péron was a French soldier and amateur naturalist. He used his spare time to pursue his interest in paleontology, and authored or coauthored several important works on the geology and paleontology of France and Algeria.
Clypeolampas is a genus of sea urchins belonging to the order Clypeasteroida.
Aeropsidae is a family of echinoderms belonging to the order Spatangoida. It contains one extant genus. There are also eight extinct genera, most of which fall in the subfamily Corasterinae.
Echinolampas is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Echinolampadidae.
Plagiobrissus is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Brissidae.
