The Heroica Escuela Naval Militar is the officer training academy of the Mexican Navy.
It began operations on 1 June 1897 with a group of cadets from the Mexican Army's Colegio Militar who had expressed an interest in training as naval officers. It was originally located on the premises of the military garrison in Veracruz. Its original staff comprised one commandant (Captain Juan Antonio Bernal of the Navy), two officers and six teachers, with 26 cadets.
It was given the appellation Heroica ("Heroic") for its efforts in defending the port during the 1914 United States occupation of Veracruz.
On 11 November 1952, the Academy moved to new premises in Antón Lizardo, Veracruz
Before graduating, final year cadets take an instructional journey on the ARM Cuauhtémoc. Since 2008, the school has accepted female cadets of the service branches.
Currently,[ when? ] all graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in engineering. There are six available concentrations: naval systems (general corps), Hydraulic engineering (marine infantry), naval mechanical engineering, engineering in electronics and naval communications, aeronaval engineering and Llogistics engineering. The Royal Thai Naval Academy (RTNA) was established by King Chulalongkorn in 1898. He officially opened the academy on 20 November 1906. Originally located on the royal yacht Maha Chakri and some other boats donated by the king, the academy later moved to Wang Derm Palace in Thonburi, then to Sattahip, and finally to its current location in Samut Prakan in 1952. The Heroic Military College is the major military educational institution in Mexico. It was founded in 1823 and located in the former Palace of the Inquisition in Mexico City. Initially designated as the Cadet Academy, it was renamed in 1823 as the Colegio Militar. The college was relocated in Perote, Veracruz, before being returned to Mexico City, where it was established in the Betlemitas monastery. Tenochtitlan-class patrol vessels is a Mexican Navy class of patrol vessels in 2012, that is based on the Damen Stan 4207 patrol vessel design. Over a dozen navies, coast guards and other government agencies operate vessels based on this design. While some of those vessels are equipped for purely civilian patrols, the Mexican vessels are armed with a pair of Browning M2 machine guns, and a jet-boat pursuit craft that can be launched and retrieved via a stern launching ramp, while the vessel is underway.
