Asian Para Games appearances (overview)

Hong Kong participated at the 2018 Asian Para Games which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 6 to 13 October 2018.

Contents

The Hong Kong delegation was composed of 101 athletes who participated in 10 out of 18 sports in the games which were Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Bowling, Lawn bowls, Table tennis, Shooting, Swimming, and Wheelchair fencing, with Ng Chak Lin served as the head of the delegation. [3]

These were the last games contested by Hong Kong under the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled umbrella, before the organisation separated into two independent entities namely the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled on 1 April 2022. Macau sent a delegation to participate in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, United Kingdom, from 29 August to 9 September 2012. This was the seventh appearance at a Summer Paralympic Games for the territory since its debut at the 1988 Summer Paralympics. A high jumper and a wheelchair fencer were chosen to represent Macau in London after the nation qualified one athlete by merit and the other by invitation. Wheelchair fencer In I Lao was nominated to be the territory's flag bearer for the opening ceremony. At the Paralympics, Lao came ninth in the group rounds of both the women's individual foil A and the women's individual épée A tournaments while high jumper Hio Sam Tong also finished in ninth in the men's long jump F20 event.

Macau sent a delegation to compete at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7–18 September 2016. This was the territory's eighth time competing at a Summer Paralympic Games since it debuted at the 1988 Summer Paralympics. The Macanese delegation to Rio consisted of one athlete, 18-year old swimmer Chen Yu Chia, who qualified for the Games by being granted a wild card place from the International Paralympic Committee in August 2016. The 2019 World Para Athletics Championships was a Paralympic track and field event organised by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee. It was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 7 to 15 November 2019. It was the 9th edition of the event, formerly known as the IPC Athletics World Championship prior to 2017.

The 2018 Asian Para Games opening ceremony was held on Saturday, 6 October 2018 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. The closing ceremony was held exactly a week later; Saturday, 13 October 2018 at the nearby, far smaller Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium. Both ceremonies were started on 19:00 local time (UTC+7) and ended around 22:00.

Leslie "Les" Lam is a Hong Kong-Canadian former Paralympian who won para table tennis medals, first at the 1972 Summer Paralympics representing Hong Kong and, four years later, at the 1976 Summer Paralympics representing Canada. He also competed in athletics, wheelchair basketball, and swimming in Paralympic Games from 1972 to 1984.
