Housen Mushema is a Ugandan runway, commercial and editorial model, [1] actor and fashion producer [2] known for playing the lead role of Balikoowa in Balikoowa in the City, Sokke on The Hostel, Andrew on Second Chance, Ben Ssali on Power of Legacy, Ian on Mistakes Girls Do, Michael on Veronica's Wish, Anthony on Bed of Thorns in addition to roles on other shows and films, including November Tear, False Dreams and The Lukkas. He is a recipient of the Abyranz Fashion and Style Awards 2015 in the Outstanding Male Model category [4] and he has hit most Man Crush Monday features in numerous magazines in Kampala. [5] He also appeared at number 7 on Satisfashion Ug Magazine's 8 most revered male models in Uganda in 2014. [6]

Career

Modeling

Housen started modeling in 2013 while in his second year at Makerere University after his father became ill, forcing him to find a job to pay for his tuition. [7] His first modeling job was as an usher at events before walking the runway or appearing in any magazines. He was signed by Joram Model Management in 2015. [8]

In 2015 Housen won an award for the most outstanding Male Model Uganda at the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards. He has worked at a number of shows both local and International including Kampala Fashion Week 2014, purpleRyan hub, Malengo Fashion Show, the Swahili Fashion Week, The bride and Groom Expo.2014/2016, Genesis Night by Hellen Lukoma (2014) and Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (2013/2014/2015). [9] He has also appeared and done photo shoots with biggest magazines in Uganda like the Bride and groom Magazine, the Flair and many more.

He has worked with numerous designers including Jose Hendo (New York), Martha Jabo (Uganda), Motions (Rwanda), Emolsam_DNA [10] and so many others.

He produced the Hijab and Kanzu fashion show in 2016 and co-produced The Vintage fashion show alongside his boss Joram Muzira in 2017.

Acting

Housen debuted his acting career in Shakespeare's play Macbeth in 2014. In the same year he got a regular role on the fourth season of The Hostel (TV series) (Serenity) produced by Fast Truck Productions playing Sokke. The TV series aired on NTV Uganda.

In 2016 he got a lead role as Balikoowa in the local comedy/drama series “Balikoowa in the City” another production of Fast Track Productions that currently airs on Spark TV.

In May 2017 Housen took over the role of Andrew Masa from an original actor in Second Chance telenovela, a Ugandan remake of a popular Telemundo, El Cuerpo del Deseo. [11] Second Chance airs on NTV UG and is produced by Phaz picture production alongside NTV Uganda.

Housen will play Mckenzie Mulumba in a Nana Kagga directed and produced upcoming new series called Reflections alongside other big celebrities like Malayika Nnyanzi, Cleopatra Koheirwe, Gladys Oyenbot and Andrew Kyamagero. [12]

He has also acted in a number of music videos such as Otubattisa by Irene Ntale and Sheebah Karungi in 2014 and in Kyanagwe by Leila Kayondo in 2017

Mushema's debut film role was in a leading role as Michael in a 2018 drama film Veronica's Wish, for which he received his first nomination. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Uganda Film Awards 2018. [13] [14]

Personal life

Housen was born in Jinja and raised in Bweyogerere. He is a devout Muslim and the fourth and last child in the family. His father was a prominent tailor in Kampala, which introduced him to fashion.

The Hostel is a Ugandan drama series created by Sabiiti "MMC" Moses and Emanuel "BUUBA" Egwel about the lives of university students in their hostels. The show premiered on NTV Uganda in 2011 and ran for four seasons. The fourth season, which was titled Serenity, saw a fresh new cast in a new hostel. The season premiered on 23 February 2015.

Second Chance, commonly known as 'NTV Second Chance' or 'Second Chance Uganda' is a Ugandan telenovela produced by NTV Uganda. The story is a remake of the Spanish-language telenovela El Cuerpo del Deseo, produced by Telemundo which had aired on NTV Uganda in 2009, winning NTV a big audience in Uganda.

Gladys Oyenbot is a Ugandan actress, singer and producer professionally known by her mononym Oyenbot. Cleopatra Koheirwe is a Ugandan actress, writer, singer, and media personality. She has garnered numerous roles on different film and television projects locally and internationally.

The Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2017 was held on 8 December 2017 at the Kampala Serena Hotel themed the Fashion Takeover, celebrating the business and entrepreneurial potential of the fashion industry in Africa. The awards were presented by the Abryanz franchise with the aim of honoring and celebrating the excellence of Africa's growing fashion industry. The event was hosted by Rachel K and Nana Akua and produced by South Africas's David Tlale.

Anita Beryl is a Ugandan Fashion Designer, Couturier and Entrepreneur. She is the creative director of Beryl Qouture, a Ugandan fashion house. The Ugandan magazine, Satisfashion Uganda, named Beryl one of "The 40 Movers and Shakers of 2016", in December 2016.

Patricia Akello, also Tricia Akello, is a Ugandan professional model, currently signed with the Muse Model Management company in New York City. She walked the 2017 New York Fashion Week, in September, working for the Bottega Veneta brand and was featured in the cover of Women’s Wear Daily magazine.

Veronica’s Wish is a Ugandan English-language drama film starring Nisha Kalema (Veronica), Housen Mushema (Michael), Malaika Nyanzi (Bankia) and Symon Base Kalema (Frank). It premiered in Uganda on 17 November 2018.

<i>Bed of Thorns</i> Ugandan drama film

Bed of Thorns (#Tosirika) is a Ugandan, all-female crew produced drama film directed and produced by Eleanor Nabwiso under the Nabwiso Films banner. The film addresses the issue of gender-based and domestic violence. It stars media personality Malaika Tenshi Nnyanzi, Diana Kahunde, youtuber and social media comedian Martha Kay, Agnes Kebirungi, Michael Wawuyo Jr., Housen Mushema, Sara Kisawuzi and Patrick Salvador Idringi. The film premiered on 30 March 2019 at a red carpet event at Century Cinema Kamwokya, Kampala.

<i>Mela</i> (Ugandan TV series) Ugandan web series

Mela is a Ugandan web television series created and directed by Nana Kagga. It stars Malaika in the lead and her debut acting role as Mela Katende while Daniel Omara, Cleopatra Koheirwe, Lesham Kenogo, Denis Kinani and Marie Corrazon joined in supporting and regular roles. The series was entirely produced at Savannah MOON by producers and sisters Meme and Nana Kagga, who also co-executive produced the series. Nana co-directed the series with Marie Corrazon.

Malaika Tenshi Nnyanzi professionally known by her mononym as Malaika is a Ugandan actress, media personality, model and fashionista. She is mostly known for her radio work on the D’Mighty Breakfast show on KFM and Malaika and Oulanya on Capital Fm as well as her acting work on Veronica's Wish, Bed of Thorns, The Honourables and Mela.

Abbas Kaijuka is a Ugandan fashion designer, stylist and fashion collector known for his brand Kai's Divo. He is a recipient of the East Africa’s Male Fashion Designer of the Year award at the 2020 East Africa Fashion Awards and the Fashion Designer of the Year award at the 2016 Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards and received various nominations including the East African Designer of the year award at the 2017 Swahili Fashion Week.

Joram Muzira alias Muzira Joram Job(born in 1987) is a Ugandan Fashion entrepreneur, model scout and coach, show director, voice over artist, and a TV personality. He founded JMM that signed international models that include Aamito stacie Lagum and Patricia Akello.
