"I Know You" is a song by British singer Craig David, featuring the British indie pop band Bastille. It was written by David, Dan Smith, Fraser Thorneycroft-Smith, and Helen "Carmen Reece" Culver for his seventh studio album, The Time Is Now (2018), with production helmed by Thorneycroft-Smith under his pseudonyme Fraser T Smith. "I Know You" is the first collaboration between David and Bastille. The official audio for the song was released on David's official YouTube account on 23 November 2017. [4]
The music video for the song first premiered on 4 January 2018 on NME 's official website, before later being uploaded to YouTube. [5] It features David and Smith (of Bastille) at a party. Another David song, "For the Gram" can be heard at the beginning in the background. [6] Directed by Alex Southam, "I Know You" video finds David at a basement party where he takes shots, sings karaoke and just enjoys moments with his friends. [7]
David and Smith performed the song live for the first time on Sounds Like Friday Night on 24 November 2017 [8] and later performed it on the Strictly Come Dancing results show on 10 December 2017 and the Top of the Pops New Year's Eve special on 31 December 2017. Craig Ashley David is a British singer and songwriter who rose to fame in 1999, featuring on the single "Re-Rewind" by Artful Dodger. David's debut studio album, Born to Do It, was released in 2000, after which he has released a further five studio albums and worked with a variety of artists such as Sting, Tinchy Stryder, Big Narstie, Kano and Jay Sean. David has 20 UK top 40 singles, and seven UK top 40 albums, selling over 15 million records worldwide as a solo artist.
Fraser Thorneycroft-Smith, known professionally as Fraser T. Smith, is an English record producer, songwriter and musician. Some of the singles he collaborated on include Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain", James Morrison's "Broken Strings", Tinchy Stryder's "Number 1" and Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart". In 2016, Smith teamed up with Stormzy to produce his debut album Gang Signs & Prayer, which won Best Album at the 2018 Brit Awards. Earlier that year he produced seven tracks on Kano's Made in the Manor album and co-produced the debut EP from South London rapper Dave. Smith has also worked with Sam Smith.
Helen Jane Culver, known by her stage name Carmen Reece, is an English singer, songwriter, musician and producer based in Los Angeles, California. An accomplished pianist and flautist from childhood, Carmen penned her first song aged 11 and has since worked and written for artists such as Ariana Grande, Kanye West, Craig David, Destiny Rogers, Samantha Jade, and Nathan Sykes. Reece also has provided background vocals, vocal production, and vocal arrangement for artists. Her debut album Love in Stereo was released in 2010 and her debut EP was released in 2020.
