Iain Peter Butchart (born 9 May 1960) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played one Test at the age of 35,in addition to 20 One Day Internationals spread over twelve years. He was an all-rounder,a right-handed batsman and an often-used medium pacer (he bowled more than 13 overs a match in his first class career). He also played nine matches for Zimbabwe in the ICC Trophy,making 57 runs without being dismissed and taking 14 wickets,including four for 33 against the Netherlands in the 1986 final,which Zimbabwe won by 25 runs.
He played in the World Cup tournaments in 1983,1987 and 1992.
In One Day Internationals –17 of 20 were at the Cricket World Cup –his best batting performance was 54 off 70 balls against New Zealand at the 1987 World Cup,which took Zimbabwe from 104 for 7 to 221 for 8 chasing a total of 243 to win. However,with four to get and three balls remaining,Butchart was run out,leaving New Zealand as three-run winner. [1] His best bowling figures were three for 57 –Aamer Sohail for 114,Inzamam-ul-Haq for 14 and Javed Miandad for 89 –in a 53-run loss to Pakistan at the 1992 World Cup. More recently he was the Zimbabwe U19 cricket coach at the U19 World Cup held in South Africa.
Iain Butchart along with Dave Houghton set the record for the highest 8th wicket partnership in ICC Cricket World Cup history(117) [2] [1]
Following his retirement from cricket,Butchart managed farms in Zimbabwe and South Africa. [3]
The 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup was the eighth Cricket World Cup,organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It was co-hosted by South Africa,Zimbabwe and Kenya from 9 February to 23 March 2003. This edition of the World Cup was the first to be played in Africa.

The ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup is an international cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) contested by national under-19 teams. First contested in 1988,as the Youth Cricket World Cup,it was not staged again until 1998. Since then,the World Cup has been held as a biennial event,organised by the ICC. The first edition of the tournament had only eight participants,but every subsequent edition has included sixteen teams. Among the full members,India have won the World Cup on a record five occasions,while Australia have won four times,Pakistan twice,and Bangladesh,England,South Africa and the West Indies once each. New Zealand and Sri Lanka have reached tournament finals without winning.
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is a cricket stadium in Kandy,Sri Lanka. The stadium opened on 27 November 2009 and became the world's 104th Test venue in December 2010.
The Kenya national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Kenya in international cricket matches. Kenya was part of the East Africa cricket team which became an associate member of the ICC in 1966,and competed in the first World Cup. Kenya first competed as an independent nation at the 1996 Cricket World Cup,after which they were given full ODI status,which they held until 2014,when they finished fifth in the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Kenya's best performance at the Cricket World Cup was in 2003,where they reached the semi-finals.
The Scotland national cricket team represents Scotland in the game of cricket. In 1992 Scotland severed their ties with the Test and County Cricket Board and with English cricket,and gained associate membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in their own right in 1994. They competed in the ICC Trophy for the first time in 1997,finishing third and qualifying for the 1999 World Cup,where they lost all their games. They also qualified for the 2007 and 2015 World Cups.
The Ireland cricket team is the cricket team representing all of Ireland. Since 2017 they have been a Full Member of the International Cricket Council. Although Cricket in Ireland has had a presence since the early 1800s,it was in 1993 the Irish Cricket Union,the predecessor to Cricket Ireland,was elected to the International Cricket Council (ICC) as an Associate member. In the 1997 ICC Trophy,Ireland narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 1999 Cricket World Cup,which was ironically co hosted by Ireland,Scotland,England and the Netherlands. Ireland qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2007,and has since played in the 2011 and 2015 tournaments,and the 2010,2012,and 2014 World Twenty20 competitions. Ireland's best performance was in 2007,where they surprisingly qualified for the Super 8 Stages.
The Dutch cricket team is a national cricket team representing the Netherlands. It is administered by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond which is based in Amstelveen close to Amsterdam and is older than many renowned cricket clubs in the West Indies,Australia,and New Zealand. The Netherlands have participated in the 1996,2003,2007 2011,and 2023 Cricket World Cups.
The England cricket team have appeared in every edition of the Cricket World Cup to date,being crowned champions in 2019. In addition,they were losing finalists in 1979,1987 and 1992. England have been eliminated from the tournament in the group stage on five occasions
