Impending Doom is an American Christian deathcore band from Riverside, California. The group has released six full-length studio albums and are currently a four piece with lead vocalist Brook Reeves as one of the two original remaining members along with Manny Contreras who left the band in 2010 but returned in 2012. The band refers to their style of music as "gorship" - a portmanteau of the words gore and worship.
Guitarist Manny Contreras and vocalist Brook Reeves started Impending Doom together on October 31, 2005.[3] The band practiced with their sound before writing enough songs to record their demo, The Sin and Doom of Godless Men. After this release, Greg Pewthers joined as a third guitarist after also leaving Oblige. Later that year, bassist Jon Alfaro left the band and David Sittig was added to the line-up in his replacement. Chris Forno also left and was never replaced. Andy Hegg later took the place of Bueno and the band recorded the album Nailed. Dead. Risen. after getting signed to Facedown Records. Due to drummer Andy Hegg's dedication to his soccer scholarship, Impending Doom was forced to employ substitute drummers for the tours that supported the album. Since then touring drummer Chad Blackwell became the official drummer for the band, during which Greg Pewthers returned to Oblige (a band later known as The Devastated), and was replaced by Cory Johnson, formerly of Sleeping Giant.
The group signed to Facedown Records in January 2007,[4] and their debut release for the label, Nailed. Dead. Risen., reached number 46 on the BillboardTop Heatseekers chart.[5] The record has received generally positive reviews.[6][7][8][9] The band has since started a street team to promote their music, which can be found on their Myspace top 8. The group then embarked on a tour of the United States to support the album in autumn 2007,[10] including dates with Dead to Fall, Winds of Plague and With Dead Hands Rising.[11] In 2009 the band released their second album, The Serpent Servant. Sometime after the release, drummer Chad Blackwell, a native of Pensacola, Florida, left the band to attend the Atlanta Institute of Music, to which Impending Doom asked former member Isaac Bueno to rejoin.
Impending Doom released their second album, The Serpent Servant, on March 31, 2009, which has hit number 3 on the BillboardTop Heatseekers chart.[5] Their third album, There Will Be Violence, was released on July 20, 2010. Sometime during the recording of the new album, both Manny Contreras and Isaac Bueno left the band for unknown reasons. Since then the band brought Brandon Trahan (formerly of Mirror of Dead Faces, xDeathstarx) into the line-up but have yet to find another permanent guitarist. The band has been on the Thrash and Burn tour 2010 with Through the Eyes of the Dead, Kittie, Born of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and more. They have toured with MyChildren MyBride, The Crimson Armada, Chimaira, and other bands.
The band also created their own symbol called the "Repentagram" combining the words repent and pentagram. The band explained the Repentagram with the following:
We've gotten a lot of mail questioning the Repentagram Logo, I would like to take time right now to explain it to you all. First off we are a Christian band and a real one at that, we would never put something out that had satanic meaning or anything negative. We thought up the word "REPENTAGRAM" basically putting two words together. 1. REPENT (meaning: to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one's life for the better; be penitent.) 2. PENTAGRAM (which in the dark metal world is a satanic symbol.) Since we are a Christian death metal band we wanted to think up something clever; thus the Repentagram came into thought. It is not the same amount of sides as a pentagram, we are going for making a Christian death metal symbol. Just like we created the word "GORSHIP" (which as you all should know, does NOT mean worship gore, it means worshiping God through our Gore sounding music) the Repentagram is just the new word. Please pass this information along to anyone you may know that thinks anything more than it really is.[12]
Baptized in Filth was produced by Andreas Magnusson who produced Oh, Sleeper's album Children of Fire and was mixed by Machine. The album is focused in God, Satan and Number of the beast. The first single is "For the Wicked" and the first video is "Murderer". A few months after the release of Baptized in Filth, Cory Johnson was fired from the band and was replaced by former founding member Manny Contreras, who had become a member of Oblige (later known as The Devastated) during his time off from Impending Doom. Johnson soon after being fired join fellow Christian metal band, MyChildren MyBride.
Lead vocalist, Brook Reeves, was one of the many vocalists that performed at the Mitch Lucker Memorial Show on December 21, 2012, with Suicide Silence in honor of their deceased vocalist, Mitch Lucker, who died on November 1, 2012. Reeves performed the song "Ending Is the Beginning", off the 2005 Suicide Silence. On February 26, 2013, Brook Reeves was also featured on the single track "Efforts to Outcomes" by Demise.[13][14]
In January 2013 Eric Correa joined the band as their second guitarist.[citation needed] Correa was Impending Doom's acting guitar tech for 2012's tour cycle. The band entered the studio in New Jersey with Producer Will Putney in May 2013 to record their fifth studio album.[citation needed] Impending Doom will be headlining this summer's Scream the Prayer Tour.[citation needed]
The band confirmed that their album Death Will Reign would be released through eOne Music on November 5, 2013.[15]
In 2016, the first Impending Doom show in three years, took place at the Facedown Fest 2016 on May 14, 2016, in Pomona, California.[16] The band performed at Facedown Fest 2017.[17]
On April 2, 2018, the band released a lyric video for their new single, "The Wretched and Godless", as well as a release date and preorders for their new album, The Sin and Doom Vol. II. The album was released on June 22, 2018.[citation needed] On February 24, 2019, Brandon "B-Town" Trahan announced his departure from the band and that his good friend Andrew Holzbaur would be taking over.[19]
An EP, Hellbent, with Will Putney mixing, mastering and producing, was initially announced to be released on January 14, 2022, but was instead released early on digital platforms on October 29, 2021, as a surprise release.[20] On July 19, 2022, the band posted on social media that they are working on a follow-up to Hellbent, with Brook Reeves stating they hope to release it "Sooner rather than later."[21]
On November 6, 2023, the band released a new song, "Eternal", along with the announcement of another EP, Last Days, released on November 20, 2023, as their first independent recording.[22]
Music style and influences
Impending Doom performs deathcore,[23] which is a fusion between death metal and metalcore.[24] They are influenced by death metal, grindcore, hardcore punk and nu metal.[25] The band refers to their style of music as "Gorship", which is described by Reeves as "Worshiping God through our gore-sounding music".[26][27]
Darkest Hour is an American metal band from Washington, D.C., formed in 1995. Though failing to break through early in their tenure, the band has received acclaim for their albums Undoing Ruin, Deliver Us, and The Eternal Return. Deliver Us debuted at number 110 on the Billboard album charts, with sales of 6,600, and their more recent effort The Eternal Return garnered them an even higher position in the Billboard album charts at number 104. Their latest album Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora charted at 42 on the Billboard 200, a peak for the band, and it marked a stylistic shift in the band's discography.
Facedown Records is a Christian rock record label based in Fallbrook, California, that is devoted to hardcore punk and metalcore bands with a few death metal acts such as Immortal Souls and Indwelling. Founded by No Innocent Victim drummer Jason Dunn in 1997, the label started small with a number of 7" record releases by Overcome, Dodgin Bullets, and Born Blind. As the label grew, it was able to sign artists for full album deals. xDISCIPLEx released material on Facedown, as well as Figure Four and Point of Recognition. The label also signs straight edge groups such as xDEATHSTARx and xLooking Forwardx.

Immortal Souls is a melodic death metal band from Kokkola, Finland, formed in 1991. They released a split album and their debut on Little Rose Productions in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2002, Immortal Souls signed with Dutch label Fear Dark which released their second and third album as well as a compilation. They have performed at Tuska Open Air Metal Festival. Their musical style is characterized by their use of melodic guitar riffs and singing which shifts between growls and shouting. Their music has been called winter metal since Immortal Souls utilizes frosty metaphors in their lyrics and usually creates a cold, wintry atmosphere. The album Wintereich was released in 2007 in Europe on Dark Balance and in the USA through Facedown Records.
Job for a Cowboy is an American death metal band from Glendale, Arizona. Formed in 2003, the band's debut album Genesis was released in 2007, peaking at No. 54 on the US Billboard 200 and selling 13,000 copies in its first week of release. The second album, 2009's Ruination, sold 10,600 copies in the United States in its first week to debut at position No. 42 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band comprises vocalist Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman and bassist Nick Schendzielos. Davy is the only remaining founding member.

xDEATHSTARx was an American Christian metal band from Redlands, California. All of the members are straight edge and they incorporate both Christian and straight edge themes within their music, with their view of the loss of values in modern society.
Whitechapel is an American deathcore band from Knoxville, Tennessee. The band is named after the Whitechapel district in East London, England, where Jack the Ripper committed a series of murders. The group comprises vocalist Phil Bozeman, lead guitarist Ben Savage, rhythm guitarist Alex Wade, bassist Gabe Crisp and third guitarist Zach Householder. Founded in 2006 by Bozeman and Savage, the band has released eight studio albums and fourteen music videos, and are currently signed to Metal Blade Records. Whitechapel's 2010 album A New Era of Corruption, sold around 10,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release and debuted at position No. 43 on the Billboard 200 chart. They worked with the metalcore band As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis and his production partner Daniel Castleman to record the album. The album was released in the US on March 31, 2009, from Facedown Records and on March 30, 2009, through Siege of Amida Records.
A Plea for Purging is a Christian metalcore band based out of Nashville, Tennessee. During their time active, they released four full-length albums on Facedown Records and two EPs. Their final release, The Life & Death of A Plea for Purging, reached No. 24 on the US Billboard Rock Albums chart and No. 11 on the Heatseekers chart. Guitarist Blake Martin played on Project 86's record, Wait for the Siren and was a touring member for Haste the Day. Drummer Aaron Eckermann was a touring musician for Corpus Christi. Vocalist Andy Atkins was featured on The Crimson Armada's song "Composed of Stone", from their album Conviction.
There Will Be Violence is the third studio album by American Christian deathcore band Impending Doom and was released worldwide on July 20, 2010, via Facedown Records. It is the first with drummer Brandon Trahan, formerly of xDeathstarx. Trahan was asked by former bandmate Cory Johnson to join Impending Doom after drummer Isaac Bueno left the band prior to the recording of the album. It also the first album not to feature founding member Manny Contreras on guitar, although he is credited with writing some of material on the record.
Matthew Wilson Greiner is an American drummer, best known as a founding member for the metalcore band August Burns Red. He also cofounded the drum company Greiner&Kilmer with fellow drummer Kaleb Kilmer, which they founded in 2012. Greiner is an outspoken Christian. While Greiner is best known for his drumming, he also plays the piano.
For Today was an American Christian metalcore band from Sioux City, Iowa, formed in 2005. They released two EPs, Your Moment, Your Life, Your Time and Prevailer, and six full-length albums: Ekklesia in, 2008, Portraits in 2009, Breaker in 2010, Immortal in 2012, Fight the Silence in 2014, and Wake in 2015.

Sleeping Giant was an American Christian metal band from Redlands, California and Salt Lake City, Utah. All the members of the band, minus drummer Matt Weir, played in the band xDEATHSTARx.
Seventh Star is an American Christian hardcore and Christian metal band, and they primarily play hardcore punk and metalcore. They come from Ocala, Florida. The band started making music, in 1998, founded by Mike Whitaker, Jai Leacock and Shawn Douglas and disbanded, in 2008, while their members were Shawn Douglas, Johnny Intravaia, Drew Russ, and Chase Moore,. They released four albums, the first being "Lifeblood" which was mainly DIY, followed by three with Facedown Records, Dead End in 2003, Brood of Vipers in 2005, and The Undisputed Truth in 2007. The band, as of 2015, reunited for some concerts, one with the support of Gideon, Bishop, and Culture Killer. The band also played Facedown Fest in 2016.
The Sin and Doom Vol. II is the sixth studio album by American Christian deathcore band Impending Doom. The album was released on June 22, 2018. The title of the album is a reference to Impending Doom's first demo release, The Sin and Doom of Godless Men, released in 2005. The band members produced the album in a more hands-on style than their previous releases, with the assistance of Christopher Eck who produced Nailed. Dead. Risen.
